something i notice on okcupid

the average height of a north american woman is about 5'3"-5'4" i believe. however when i browse profiles on this site i see a vastly disproportionate amount of girls listed in the 5'7"-5'9" range. their short girl counterparts in the 5'0"-5'2" range are especially rare. this leads me to estimate an average girl height on okcupid of 5'6"-5'7" – the statistical equivalent of 6'0"-6'1" for guys.

so what gives? i don't see this skewing when i browse plentyoffish. my guess is that it is due to one or a combination of the following factors:

* the SWPL/hipster white girls who make up 90% of okc tend to be taller
* girls are straight fraudin' on their heights, listing what they’d be in heels
* due to their ego, poor spatial perception, or whatever, girls are widely mistaken about their heights – a girl at my office who’s no more than 5'3" thought she was 5'5"
* taller girls are pickier or unluckier in love and resort more to online dating
* the human race is just getting taller with each passing generation

what do you think? have you noticed this on okc? i'm curious about this. i live in toronto btw.

Some beetshes like to add an inch or two to their height....so they can justify dating a taller man. They have no reason to ask for one if they're 5'2 but they do if they're 5'4. You'll never know their real height since they can wear 4-6 inch heels. Sure you'll know they're shorter but guess what, you found out until you met her and you're stuck on a date.

Yesterday some broad was throwing a rant about how she wants a 6'+ ft man because...

Notice how she places emphasis on 1/2 of an inch?

Shrewd observation. I've noticed this too.

What it might mean is taller women have a harder time IRL getting dates and need to go online. If you think back to high school, who were the wallflowers? Usually the taller girls. I think there is a study somewhere that showed that women who are a few inches shorter than average height breed more -- so that might play into it too.

I've noticed this too and it's, in fact, part of a work-in-progress post I'm doing for ROK.

The explanation is simple: tall girls are less attractive and desirable, despite the delusional idea among a surprising number of them that they're borderline models. While their petite counterparts get swooped up long before they can even start to open an online profile, tall girls have to hunt around a little more. They get fewer offers.

Furthermore, since all girls like to go out with guys taller than them, simple statistics make it that a girl over, say, 5'9" will have a harder time than a girl who's 5'3" finding an acceptable guy who's also taller than them.

OKC studies are really useful because they're mostly based on what people are actually doing on the site as opposed to their self-reported preferences or behaviors

It's crazy that women would exaggerate their height, since height above a certain point is a negative for most guys-but then a lot of women think that men like women who are "strong", "independent" and "sarcastic" too, so they obviously know little about men's actual preferences and chose to believe the media about them.

It is true though that there are a lot of tall women who do online dating because they have a harder time attracting guys in real life because the guys can see how tall they are

The study cited above has a graph showing the number of first messages women get by height-it starts to decline slightly at 5'5" , declines more sharply at 5'9"and falls off a cliff at 5'11"

Hotwheels, I am on board with you man. I'm 6'6 so when I see a girl that's 5'9 or taller, its easy to approach since she is probably self-conscious about her height and looking for a giant to make her feel less insecure. I love approaching taller women.

This is my first post.
I'm 6'5" (195cm for you metric barbarians). I love tall chicks, and seek them out. I don't have to bend over to reach her face, and I agree they are easier to game, especially as a tall dude. However, I'm sure if I were a foot shorter I would feel differently.

There's a good chance that a lot of it is either fake profiles or girls lying about their height. American women have a bizarre fixation on height where it's probably the most important quality to them, so naturally they will want to lie about their height because they "only date guys who are 6 feet or taller" or some bullshit.

Ever since I became convinced of my superiority and genius, I have been more attracted to tall and even very tall women although I am only 5'9".

I'm still lame at approaching them, but they seem more forlorn and needy for attention.

I plan to use the logic that they should date a shorter guy because otherwise if she has daughters they will be even taller and also feel left out.

If only my arrogance matched my genius, we would both be so happy.

Poor things.

I couldn't care a less about height, and most men don't. However, there are some women who do.

Lots of tall women like to bitch about how they can't find good men. They get what they deserve.

I'm betting she measures first thing in the morning.

I have no prejudice against women when it comes to height per se. I would never disqualify a woman just because she's "too tall" or "too short."

However, some tall women will disqualify a shorter man automatically on the basis of height. I suspect a lot of these same women spend a lot of time on dating sights because they are selective. I have absolutely no sympathy at all for these women.

Thanks again for reminding me why I have avoided dating sites for so long.

Talks girls tend to go for guys who are taller than them because they don't want to look big.

Petite girls have petite pussies. I don't care how tall a girl is as long as she's not taller than me.
