Optical illusion test for schizophrenia

7 in 1000 people have schizophrenia.

And if you are not fooled by this optical illusion - you are one of them.

I don't understand? What am I supposed to think when I see that mask thing?

What if you get both, depending which way you're looking at it?

I tried to fight it but couldn't see the hollow flip side.

You're looking at the inside of a mask. If you're not schizophrenic it seems as if you're looking at the outside

@kosko: I can get all the features hollow, but only one side of the actual face at a time

So what means what? Not sure what I was supposed to see there...

Okay, I went back and watched it a couple more times. The first few times I just saw a mask, hollow inside. I really focused on what the guy was saying the last view and on the final rotation it finally clicked and I was able to see a second face with the inside of the mask.

I'm pretty bad at facial recognition regardless so that probably skews things though.

It's a sensationalistic article, as always.

The illusion is in the video. Many people will see the dimly side-lit mask in the video rotating one way when colored, then when looking at the concave, uncolored mask it reverses direction of rotation.

Schizophrenic people don't see the illusion. But also people who are drunk or high don't see it either.

If you really think you're one of the seven out of a thousand people with schizophrenia, there's more accurate tests than this.

"Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever. I'm awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly color. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."

Guess I'm not a schizo then! There's no way that's the inside of a mask?? Surely? How bizarre.

I don't get it. I just see an empty mask. I still don't understand what I'm supposed to see or not see.

The inside of the empty mask from the video should appear like another convex face of Charlie Chaplin.

After the original side has rotated out view, the reverse concave side suddenly appears to be a normal face and not hollow, until the moment that it's replaced again as it continues to turn.

pause this at around 20 or 21 seconds. It still looks like a stupid test.

People whom are "skitz" lack the ability to emotionally connect and have next or little empathy for others. It can be broken down into two sides where one views themselves as another person, and at greater value then they really are. The others isolate themselves in a way since they have trouble trusting others and live life extremely through a narrow and selfish lens.

You can be a tycoon in Wall street or a bum on the street and have the condition. It can breed great success or destruction in people but both extremes share the similar traits noted above.

Also many may have the gene set but I am in the camp that environmental or specific triggers have to be set to let things take off. Many drug addicts end up releasing the gene set from heavy drug use rich burns trough to protective pars of the brain. Also, big time emotional events/trauma can set it off as can extreme stress. A ton of people are walking around with this gene set but may never come to approach that outside trigger that sets them off their tree.

What? How many schizophrenics have you interviewed to make such a generalised statement?

While they may struggle to make emotional connections, this more due to the general deterioration of reality than a lack of empathy. Plenty of normal guys with healthy relationships have been seen to collapse into schizophrenia, so it's not a underlying predisposition, rather a result of the collapse. They do tend to become loners before entering full-blow schizophrenia, but that's part of the deterioration of early schizophrenia.

10 years of experience in the field. I don't interview, I worked with them at their best and worst. I admit I was blurring Psycopaths with Schizophrenics but many share the same norrotic behaviors.

The isolation and deteriation stems from thier inability to create and keep emotional bonds. The essence of all relationships be it financianal, loving, or just friendship stems from the ability to screen an recognize emotions and scions - they are extremely poor at doing this IMO.

A really good friend of mine since childhood ended up being schizophrenic and the biggest change I see in him is his utter lack of motivation to do anything now, and his completely delusional perspective on reality. It's actually frightening what people can believe when they lose a grip on reality. That car behind us, they're following us. That helicopter, it's following me.

Watch the movie the Truman Show. If there was no such thing as the Truman Show and Truman really was just freaking out for no reason, that's what a schizophrenic tends to look like. Always keep a sound control on your mind, more than any other type of deterioration you can face, when you lose control of your mind you're completely screwed.
