My basic premises

a) 50% of people below average
b) Alpha fux & beta bucks / 20% men fuck 80% women (& impregnate)

this behaviour raises overall fitness of the human race as the strong will outbreed the weak and will let us reach for the stars

it would be great if we could artificially limit the breeding opportunities of the below average cattle, but in absence of eugenics and I guess, soon to be available & widespread access to genetic engineering, and just focusing social forces on maximizing hypergamy the rulers of this shit show are actually breeding us into superior humans using the best technology available to them right now

Nope.

Having superior genetics will make you 5% prettier or 3% stronger or 2% more intelligent or 5% more resistant to a a certain disease. It is impossible to evolve cell immunity, supercomputer brains or colossal strength just by natural selection (even if it were, the time required would be enormous). These things are all nice, but they don't do anything by themselves.

Meanwhile, Betas with decent livehoods (and a motivation to be productive so to be sexually competitive) are necessary for:

A) Minimization of wars and widespread destruction that results from constant squabbling for the only "winner takes all" Alpha spot. Your proposal only seems alluring to you because you're currently (I assume) in the Alpha position. Basing a civilization on such a huge discrepancy means lots of brutal and destructive changes, which would almost guarantee that you would be slaughtered with the next wave of change as well.

B) Inventing, designing, building and maintaining technology that allows for civilization, whether it's irrigation channels, highways, programming languages or LHC - not to mention military defense of their wives and families

C) No successful society on Earth has ever functioned that way. Not once in history. There are only far-flung relics of such societies like the Mosuo people or some Amazon or African tribes. In the absence of A and B, your society would automatically weaken over time and be replaced by societies that haven't introduced such short-sighted measures.

As the English proverb says "Sorry doesn't feed the bulldog", I say "Genetics don't run the civilization."
