Logging workers get #1 yet again, police and firefighters don't even make the list. Also, the drop in death rates going down the list is amazing. #3 is only 42% the fatality rate of loggers and #10 is 8%

Last, where's the sexist outcry. When was the last time you saw a woman, that wasn't a lesbian, in any of the 10 occupations.

A father in divorce court is missing from the list.

for sure; as a logger the hazards of the job are only out to take your life. The hazards of divorce court are out for your life, family AND money.

I had no idea I have worked one of the most dangerous jobs. [Image: lol.gif]

You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

Something must be wrong, I can't find HR coordinator or event planner on the list anywhere.

To be fair there are a lot of these lists and all of them have a different idea of what is dangerous. The commonality is height. Gravity is a bitch. Defense contracting used to top the list, but the Defense Dept was only reporting Americans killed, which hit 1000 back in 2Q 2007. That number was easily doubled if you counted OFW's, which they didn't. That would have shocked the public. I've worked 3 of the common jobs listed. I'm done with that shit.

Nothing on that list surprises me, although I'm surprised that taxi driver didn't make the list. I have heard that driving a taxi is actually the most dangerous occupation.

OFW = overseas foreign workers? and I agree, after spending much of my early youth in 2 of these jobs I am happy to work in an office. My old boss used to say "Wiscanada, how is it that you are so optimistic when problems come up around here" My reply was "Where I came from problems were people dying or things being on fire, we've got a long way to go before I get panicked"

if alot of people do the job the fatalities/100k get watered down, it also only covers fatalities. So being plain old injured, infected etc. doesn't put it on the list.

The shitty taxi driving job in NYC gets watered down by the other boring taxi driving jobs in Dubuque IA and Asheville NC. Though I also was looking for gas station attendant/convenience store clerk...maybe its only US citizens making the ranks?

Here is an update to the deadliest jobs story:

http://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2015-dangerous-jobs/

Very interesting how they turn the stats into graphics and they ask three questions

Quote:Quote:

Which of these workers is most likely to die on the job?

Quote:Quote:

Which of these jobs is near the top of the list for fatalities but near the bottom for pay?

Quote:Quote:

Which occupation has the highest number of deaths due to violence?

The first graph shows the Job with most fatalities (Fishers) with more than 131 deaths per 100k. Waaaay down at the bottom were female oriented jobs like social services and retail work from between 1 per 100k and .5 per 100k in deaths.

It also shows salaries. So the fisherman is making about 35k and far more likely to die then the retail person making about 20k, and making less then a social worker making about 40k.

Screw the wage gap, we need to talk about the statistic called the "death gap"

Quote:Quote:

About 20% of the women who died on the job were involved in roadway incidents

That sounds a bit low, maybe they're not counting the fatalities that occurred while parking up?

If aircraft pilot is such a deadly job (3rd deadliest), why are there so few airplane crashes and why is air travel considered so safe? Something doesn't add up.

CNN:

Quote:Quote:

It's not the commercial airline pilots who suffer high rates of on-the-job fatalities, it's the bush pilots, the air-taxi operators and the small commercial flyers who make piloting airplanes one of the nation's most dangerous jobs.

Often these planes are not as well maintained as big commercial jets, and the pilots are inexperienced. Alaska has had particularly high fatality numbers in the past as long flights, unpredictable weather and difficult terrain conspire to bring aircraft down.
