Scandinavia's Largest Hotel Chain Bans Porn From Pay-TV

OSLO, Norway, August 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

Petter Stordalen, sole owner of Nordic Choice Hotels, has decided to remove pay-tv-porn movies from all his 171 Scandinavian hotels. At his new flagship hotel The Thief in Oslo he is replacing porn with contemporary video art.

- We believe it is a natural part of our social responsibility to not support an industry that contributes to trafficking, which is why this decision will be implemented with immediate effect, says Petter Stordalen.

At Oslo's waterfront luxury hotel The Thief they have taken the concept one step further.

- As a world's first, the interactive TVs in each room offer "art on demand" with a choice of high-end contemporary video art.

Leading the way

Nordic Choice Hotels has a long history of paving the road for new hotel standards. Back in 2006 they were the first hotel in the world to introduce a smoking ban on all their rooms, since 2008 they have collaborated with the Rainforest Foundation bankrolling the preservation of 100 square meters of rainforest for every guest night they sell, in February 2010 they introduced ecological breakfast to all hotels and by the end of 2010 all hotels were environmentally ISO-certified.

Scandinavia's largest hotel company has since 2008 worked with UNICEF. In 2012 more than 2500 of the hotel chain's employees voted to support the project "Free to grow" which focus on trafficking, particularly child victims of sexual exploitation and abuse.

Against trafficking

- 1.2 million children are victims to trafficking annually. 70% of these are sexually exploited. Children are sold to both prostitution and the porn industry. Through "Free to grow", and our new ethical guidelines, we want to contribute to the important work UNICEF is doing to combat this problem, says Stordalen.

Mainstream porn leads to child trafficking?

What the fuck is this thought process? I won't even try to imagine it, as this dumb fuck just wants to stuff human sexuality back into the closet, using the pretense of helping the children.

When all else fails to be persuasive, claim you are doing it for the children.

In his hotel, I still have my Droid 4 - which is excellent at streaming porn.

I'll just leave his "art on demand" on the TV while I watch two hot blondes go at it on my phone.

Who watches TV anymore, anyway?

It's fascinating how this sad trope is so beloved by the feminist and white knight hordes despite there being no actual research to support it. If anything, making sex more available in form of porn and prostitution makes trafficking less likely.

Wouldn't have thought that it was a publicity stunt, but I see that it just may well be. I could do with being a bit more cynical.

But I was thinking, when reading the article, that it really doesn't matter what is or isn't on pay TV. These kind of restricted networks are going the way of the dodo. While there is obviously still a lot of protected copyrighted material that is difficult to get online in good quality (e.g major live sports events), the world is moving away from closed networks. One hotel group deciding to ban porn movies will have exactly no effect on anything at all except decreasing their revenue very slightly.

Human trafficking is making more money right now than drugs. Porn is getting a second look as it's connected.

It's true. It's a big problem in some parts if the globe but so much money is tied to it it's swept under the rug. Immigration policies in these days mirror human trafficking flows. Also the victims of human trafficking at a high majority Caucasian. It's a white female problem yet femenists are pretty hush about it......?....

This hotel guy is pulling PR shit but the problem does exist though low key. In Toronto they had to start giving strippers IDs/liscences because a bunch of clubs were just getting funneled in broads from EE through connects.

The shadow/shady parts of Goverment make good money sneaking people in, it's a hustle that won't be dying down.
