Europe Places to Party

Europe party spots. Nothing we don't know about on here. Krakow and Dublin make the list, interestingly enough. Article written by Nomadic Matt, a travel blogger.

Bad list in my opinion. Very bad list. Eastern Europe is barely represented. I looked the author up. To be honest, he does not have the authority to make this list.

Where's Tallin? Riga? Odessa? Skopje? Berlin? Don't get me started... Lagos & Dublin.. give me a break.

I think the article is targeting the American backpacker crowd. Talin, Riga etc. are off the beaten path for American tourists. Lagos is a popular hop off spot on the way from Portugal to Spain. For a first time traveller, you gotta do Lagos, Dublin, Barcelona etc. first before you move on to Skopje etc.

I don't think the list is too far off, but it really doesn't let you know about the truly cool places in Europe. My experiences date over a decade ago, but here's a few places that were good:

1. Galway, Ireland (Dublin was pretty good too)
2. Montpelier, France
3. Salamanca, Spain
4. Talinn, Estonia
5. Most college towns
6. Manchester England during "Freshers" week at the local universities
7. Prague/ Budapest (this was over a decade ago)
8. Madrid, Seville and Barcelona Spain
9. The european festival circuit Roskilde in Denmark, Glastonbury, reading, etc.
10. Any great big festival Oktoberfest, Fiesta in April in Sevilla, Spain
11. Lots of other places were plenty good too, although perhaps not outstanding.

Ibiza is dead during the winter, closed, dreamy. Far as I know, I used to go to Mallorca, there you can find a few clubs that are open during the winter too, but I would recommend only going during the summer to the balearics. Meaning July, August.

When's the last time one of these 'top 10 lists' was in any way accurate? They usually list the obvious well known spots.

This list is too short, inaccurate and too generic. A true list needs to be more accurate - even down to a specific venue/location on a specific day.

I keep a running social calendar of notable parties and events all over the world that I've learned of either from reading this board, researching the net, or heard of from fellow travellers along the circuit. This calendar serves as one of the cornerstones of my mobile lifestyle. A week in Cancun for spring break, a couple of days at the Baltic Beach Party in Liepaja last week of July, a week in Ios during the summer season, several days in Burning Man during Labor Day weekend, a week in Floripa or PDE for New Years, etc.

I also think a list should be personal. I'll read a top ten list like this and take note of 3-4 that might interest me.
