Vegas 9/12 - 9/15 Mayweather fight weekend
08-06-2013, 12:55 PM
Hello all.
I know there is a ton of info on vegas on here already, but I was just curious how much busier and more expensive vegas gets for the big boxing fights. I have read enough to know to avoid vegas on Memorial day and Labor day etc... But do fight weekends get as bad?
I am headed down there the 12th-15th. Have a room at Cosmopolitain.
Any advise?
Thanks

They do get busier..but not so much so that its annoying or a shitshow. Its not a marquee fight (compared to say...Pacquiao/Mayweather would have drawn) and its not going to get the huge number of extra people that a major major fight would get. The only time I noticed a big change was when Tyson was fighting and the MGM would make all of their tables $100 minimum bets and have special chips for the night, etc.
Since Alvarez is Mexican, there will probably be a lot of mexicans in town but generally I don't really notice the extra crowds or upselling of tables/bottles/admission to clubs. It should just be a regular weekend. Exception is the "official fight afterparties" (they're never good or different than anywhere else)...and they won't be at the tier one clubs.
BTW, if you're not watching the fight live, its pretty fun to watch it on closed circuit at the Grand Garden at MGM. There is just a massive sea of people since you go through the same walkway as the Grand Garden Arena.

I am thinking of going to Vegas week of September 12th as well. As everyone wonders on these forums what about gaming opportunities? Would you guys say women tend to avoid boxing/ufc weeks in general?

not at all. in my experience, the only time to avoid is CES or AVN.
