How negging can help you learn languages

Hey guys - I'm a big fan of this really cool polyglot called Stu Jay Raj. I interviewed him a month back and it turns out he uses PUA techniques a lot to learn languages! He has worked as an interpreter for Miss Universe on several occasions (poor guy!!) and speaks 13 languages really well and another 15 quite well.

I convinced him to write a guest post on my blog detailing his best tips for combining language learning and PUA techniques and he wrote a very detailed post about using negging to convince locals to help you learn their language. Enjoy! [Image: smile.gif]

The post itself is good and has some valuable advice. However it makes wrong impression from the start, pretending that it contains some rocket science instead of generic common sense, and it hurts the overall appearance really bad. Just look at start:

I’m very reluctant to reveal too much about this subject. It’s very personal, very effective and if used in the wrong way, can do a lot of damage.

Of course when you go through the post, there is nothing like that. Makes me wonder if the author is knowingly telling bullshit (which, in turn, raises question about how much else in this post is not true), or he is just as shallow as seeing it as something worth Nobel prize (while, in fact, it does not)?

This is actually a generic problem with a lot of self-improvement books which start with something like "this book will change your life completely and irreversibly", while in fact the book is full of generic common sense and some radical ideas which would only work for the book author.

Most people reading it will not be familiar with negging. Common sense in these forums is not common sense in general [Image: wink.gif]

Gotta side with oldnemesis. The article has so much fluff it basically can be summed up in one sentence: "Negging can work in foreign languages." I don't see where it shows how negging can help you learn a language. If you mean that by negging can help you PRACTICE a foreign language, well, yeah.

I've bookmarked a couple of your blog posts which I really liked, but this one isn't very helpful.

Also, congrats on releasing your product. How's that going?

Thanks Roosh! Glad you are enjoying the blog [Image: wink.gif]

Stu Jay has a bulky writing style, but I think his message was worth including on the site nonetheless. Practising a language = learning a language to me and his example of neutralising the Thai girl's efforts to keep the conversation in English conveys that well in my view.

Of course, that's his own writing style and I've got my own things to say with lots more posts coming - so it's great you are enjoying it! Occasional guest posting will ease the pressure of producing regular content a little bit. If you think you can do better let me know! (It would have to be watered down a lot or purely factual though; I've got such an innocent audience you wouldn't believe it). I'm getting about 40-100k visitors a month at the moment. Not bad after blogging for just over a year!!

Product is going well! Sales are entirely supporting me at the moment [Image: smile.gif] I thought it would just be an initial burst, but since my site is still popular and getting links from other sites and appearing on Google's radar, new readers are coming in all the time and I make direct sales every single day. I haven't even had to worry about not finding affiliates yet.

In October I'll be releasing an update to the LHG in about 20 languages and putting the price up again. The price hike in July gave me ridiculous amounts of last-minute sales - enough to be able to afford a week in Las Vegas to go to a blogging conference on my way to Colombia, so hopefully that will happen again. People tend to sit on the fence with something of this price, but a last chance to buy it before it gets more expensive is useful pressure.

My decision to pick Colombia was highly influenced by your writing! Seems like I could enjoy my time there a lot! The language mission will not be Spanish (or a native-American language) though since my Spanish is as good as native by now. I'll keep people in the dark about exactly what I'll be up to for the moment! [Image: wink.gif]

Hope all is well!

Nice. You found a topic where people are willing to pay quite a bit money to get more information, and your self-promotional skills bring in sales without having to advertise. This is a very good example for building a blog audience and then selling them something they want.

Oh yes, how did you get your books published on Amazon? Was it a complicated process? I was thinking of doing the same myself but wasn't sure if it was worth the headaches/hassle.

Go to Createspace.com. Formatting can be a pain but the actual process isn't so bad.

It's very worth it because a bunch of Amazon customers who've never been to your blog will end up buying your book on impulse.

Roosh is right, I posted a link to Bang on Amazon on the facebook of a friend who was having girl troubles and he just bought it without knowing anything about who Roosh was.

The cover probably helped.
