I decided to post this after reading a Return of Kings post with a link to this youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSF82AwSDiU
I just watched the video and can't help but feel a bit skeptical. I've been looking at porn fairly regularly since I was a teen about seven or eight years ago, and it still excites me just the same. OK...maybe a little less, but that can be fixed by just waiting a few more days inbetween rub-off sessions. I honestly think it has more to do with age, than some cocaine-like addiction. Heck I already have grey hairs in my beard...and hairy palms!
Hah, kidding about that last part. But the grey hairs in my beard are definitely there.
Also, I want to contradict the speaker's claims that porn leads to Erectile Dysfunction. I notice that the more often I masturbate and look at porn, I get more easily turned on with women in real life. I get boners more easily.
The speaker also implies that porn leads to a male not being able stay sexually satisfied with one partner. Not true! I have no problem getting one-itis. Maybe if you're in a very long term relationship like marriage. But lack of arousal in such situations is pretty much par for the course.
I've done the 30 day challenge twice, and the first time I extended it to about 50 days. Other than maybe saving time (which you don't really do, because your work becomes less productive due to the psychological baggage of not getting your rocks off), I noticed no benefits whatsoever. In fact, I noticed a lot more stress when talking with women. Around day 50, I decided to hang out with a girl and weasel my way into her apartment and bed, but I found it to be extremely difficult to get aroused. Before starting the challenge I had hung out with the same girl out in public and just sitting and flirting with her gave me a boner.
At the end of the second time doing the challenge, I decided to have a one-night stand with a pretty sexy woman. I was so "horny", but once I got into bed with her, it was extremely difficult to get aroused, and I could not hold my wood for the life of me.
Nowadays, I wouldn't let myself go more than 6 or 7 days without an orgasm. After that length of time, it's as if my sex drive starts to go into hibernation mode. Also, I've noticed that when I wait too long, orgasms can sometimes be a bit painful. My theory here is that the orgasm muscles have simply atrophied due to lack of use. Anyone ever get orgasm muscle cramps?
Also, I've read that it's good for prostate health to orgasm regularly.
Anyway, perhaps I'm a bit different than most guys, but I'm sure there's a lot more like me that feel the same way.
I agree with some of the things that the guy says in the Return of Kings article. Such as only lasting ten seconds. I find that to be true. Although it's harder to get aroused, I find that once I do, I do not last very long.
Back to original point, I want to believe that there's something bad with porn, but the ted speaker doesn't really convince me.
