I like where this trend is heading. The university system needs to be disrupted.

I'm wondering the extent to which you'd still have to physically show up to TA lectures and stuff.

If it is literally virtual from the first day until graduation, I wonder if it's possible to do a digital nomad style education?

Imagine living in Bangkok, Saigon, and Bali during the course of this entire program. You could baseline your expenses down to 1000 dollars a month if you wanted to.

I don't know how long this masters program is but if it is one year long then that's about $15K USD for living expenses and $7K USD for tuition - total under $25K for tuition and expenses. Not too shabby.

2 important questions.
1. Is it for folks who have bs cs degrees?
2. Will employers accept it?

Yeah that is true. Those are important questions.

In a broader perspective I have a dream/vision in which young Americans can get online diplomas from accredited places while exploring destinations abroad.

I think you'd pretty much have to plunk yourself down in one city per semester with some limited ability to do day/weekend trips when you schedule and course work allows it. Maybe this is what you are talking about.

Georgia Tech is a pretty well-respected institution. If the whole cheap online degree thing is ever going to take off and change the way higher-ed is taught in this country - it needs to start with schools like Georgia Tech. I think a lot of people (and that includes employers) still associate online programs with diploma mills.

I'm going to an in-state public school for a masters in comp sci and it costs me roughly $5000 a semester.

More accurately, will nations accept it as a masters degree for visa applicants? Master degree usual equals much easier work visas and getting permanent residence status far quicker. The most useful part of my degree was it enabling me to get a work visa in other countries.

Here's a link to the FAQ from the GA Tech website:

To answer jimukr's question, it appears that you need a CS undergrad degree
