So I have two options on where to live right now. Both are 1 BR/1 BA.

Rent
Option A: $650/month with cable, internet and water included
Option B: $775/month with cable, internet and 25% of water included

Amenities
Option A: Newer appliances, no washer/dryer
Option B: Slightly older appliances, washer/dryer

Location
Option A: 10-minute walk from downtown/bar district
Option B: 10-minute drive from downtown/bar district

Not sure what really else to put here. Option A is a smaller complex.

Having my own washer and dryer is a plus, but at the same time, living there would be $125 more per month and that adds up in the long run. However, I wouldn't need to pay each time I'd need to do it. Option A does have on-site laundry, which costs $1 per load.

Where would you want to live?

how many loads of laundry do you do a month. Twice a week is normal for me. 1$ for wash and 1$ for dry twice a week would be 4 bucks, so 16 bucks a month, cheaper than the extra $125 in rent. The only advantage you would have to consider there is that you wouldn't have to babysit your clothes while they were washing. But then again, laundromats and on-site laundry give you a chance to meet some females.

I would go option A. Better logistics (although I would ideally want something within 5 minute walk of downtown), newer appliances, for $125 less.

Option A, hands down. W/D doesn't matter all that much for a single dude, you just do your laundry once a week and you're done.

I have enough clothes to do my laundry once every two weeks (I handwash my gym shorts after every use). It is a pain not having a W/D, especially since I used to like throwing my shirts into the dryer for about 10 minutes to get them crisp before wear, but it isn't THAT big of a deal. Never babysat my clothes, never gotten anything stolen. Also, consider the extra you would have to pay in utilities for the wash (75% of the water used) and the dry (electricity).

If you have a huge bankroll, obviously do whatever the fuck you want to do.

Thanks for the advice so far. Option A does sound like a better option even without the W/D. My bankroll is pretty small, so I guess saving money is good any way that I can.

Option A is the obvious pick. A W/D is not worth $125 a month. That's an extra $1500 a year. That's enough to finance a small vacation for yourself.

Suck it up and use the on-site laundry, or better yet head to the laundrymat and experiment with laundrymat game and write a post about it.

When you put that it's an extra $125 per month, it really makes it stand out. I guess I'll have to get used to using on-site laundry. It's right across from my potential place.

Logistics are EVERYTHING.

I'm getting ready to move into a badass spot 1 and a half blocks from Hollywood Blvd. It's literally about 2 blocks from the main clubs/bars, plus I can walk to the gym.

I expect my notches to skyrocket, since I live around 20min from Hwood now.

By the way where the hell is rent so cheap? I could only wish...

Trying not to give away too much about myself, but I live in Central Texas.

I should also mention that I live across the street from Option B and it's a decent complex with a 24-hour fitness center and a pool/hot tub. Option A has a pool, but no fitness center or things like that.

I was going to ask if you live in Texas.

Damn that is some great rent.

A 425 sq ft studio logistically situated in DC is $1675. Add another $240 if you need a parking space.

As for laundry, find a wash and fold and pay by the the pound.

Smaller college town. Probably couldn't find the same rates in Dallas.

Never knew you could pay by the pound. Sounds interesting.

Always pick the one within walking distance of the clubs/bars. Even if its a room with a matress on the floor.

Why do you need clean clothes if they are not going to stay on your body for more than 20 minutes?

Good point! Actually, wearing clothes is beta. A true alpha walks around popping zinc tabs wearing nothing but a condom.

I know people who are paying around those prices but apartments are apartments. It's always ghetto people mixed in with regular unless you're paying at least $1,000/month.

So that begs the question, how close is close enough and how far is too far?

Obviously the closer the better, but the rent is also more expensive the closer you are. I would say anything within a 5 minute walk from the downtown area/your final venue spot is ideal. Up to 10 minutes is do able, and you will probably start to see rent come down in that range. Anything above a 10 minute walk would not be ideal unless it is a killer pad.
