SIMs, micro-SIMs, nano-SIMs

This question is not worth a new thread, but I didn't know where to post it.
Also I guess that it's solely someone from the FSU crew (Akula, Vorkuta, Partizan, ect) who can answer.
My worry is about nano-SIMs.
I want to buy this summer (or maybe I will wait for the iPhone 6) a new unlocked cell phone for local calls in FSU. Until now, I used an old 4S as a second "travel phone", and the micro-SIM wasn't a problem, as for salesmen in phone stores, cutting a SIM into a micro-SIM was a very easy process. But now most phones come with a nano-SIM (which is thinner than the mini-SIM and micro-SIM) and it could well be that a nano-SIM's tray can't accept the SIM's thickness, so even cutted, the SIM wouldn't fit in. So my question: do MTS, Megafon, etc shops in Russia have now nano-SIMs?...and what about Belarus and Ukraine?...I would hate to show up in Minsk, in Voronehz or in Zaporijia with a phone for which I can't find a SIM.
Or maybe it is doable to cut a SIM into a nano-SIM without having to reduce its thickness? .... maybe someone has already had this case ?
Spasibo.

Just made a google search (which admittedly I should have done before), and it seems that it is actually possible to cut a SIM into a nano-SIM.
Sorry.

Not everyone has a new cutting-edge phone...but people are always switching carriers, getting new cell phone plans, etc so...wouldn't providers make the older mini and regular sims available as well? I'm sure they're still selling old shitty phones in their stores that use the old cards anyway.

A nano-SIM being some 15% thinner than a micro-SIM, I thought that to fit in the SIM tray or slot of per exemple a iPhone 5 or a HTC One, a micro-SIM had to be thinned out with sandpaper, but obviously I was wrong.

Agree with you ....but new cell phones cost next to nothing nowadays - of course, provided you take a subcription or you have a fidelity program. Bought recently a iPhone 5 to my son (16 yo) for 180 €, thanks to my Orange fidelity program points, which allows you to get a new phone every two years a low price - I don't use it because I buy my phones on my company's account. Retail price here is 680 €, which is admittedly expensive.
As a side note, we'll surely all agree here that without the latest smartphone, your sex-appeal will plummet -especially in EE/FSU. In this respect, the iPhone is top, the blending metal and glass looks splendid and it is arguably the best looking of all the smartphones around.

I traveled through Europe a few months ago and had three different nano sims in my iPhone 5. I cut standard sized sims down to size with scissors each time without a problem.
The sim card thickness is a non-issue. Various sim cards have different thicknesses anyway, it's not something that was ever exact.

What a letdown! Hearing the first time about nano-SIMs, I imagined they've shrunk them to size of a few grains of sand. Instead it's the same old thing with less decoration so more hardware can be squashed all around it.
