'Nice' Guy leaves Waitress 00 Tip

What's the fuss?

Maybe the guy has terminal cancer, or just got a 400k bonus, maybe he won the lottery, maybe he dislikes his children and is intent on giving away. Whoever left, it probably has enough to give away.

The funny thing is $1000 won't get you to Italy and back. I would have scribbled on a napkin:

"You get the other $1000 at the end of the night. 1400 King Street Apt 777, 8pm. You bring the wine, and don't be cheap."

This heals it for me [Image: potd.gif]

I would be willing to bet money that she never makes it to Italy. 8 years of art school and she's a waitress? Probably wouldn't know how to save money if her life depended on it. As Gmac mentioned, that won't even cover her air fare, let alone lodging, meals, and any other travel expenses.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say:
Shoes, girl's trip to Vegas, and a new handbag.

This guy would have been better off lighting up a Montecristo with that cash.

"...so I gave her an STD, and she STILL wanted to bang me."

Oh, she’ll make it to Italy alright, even while making terrible financial decisions along the way. How, you ask? Because there are just so many nice, helpful guys in this world!

1. Most likely, this waitress was already receiving much larger tips than her male coworkers. When you add up all the extra $5s, $10s, and $20s from all these big-hearted guys, you’ll probably get far more than $1000 over the course of a year. In fact, some on this thread have stated that they too would drop large sums of money given the opportunity.

2. Once in Europe, she’ll have plenty of kind men from Couchsurfing insist on having her stay over rather than book a hotel, after which they will guide her through the city and treat her to the finest dining.

3. She’ll have plenty of connections around town through her 1000+ helpful male friends on Facebook.

4. If she wants to hitchhike across Europe (and many women are comfortable doing this), helpful men will swerve to the side of the road before she can even get her hand raised.

Funny new trend: Men are so much more open to picking up single female hitchhikers that some couples will keep the boyfriend hidden until a person offers the woman a ride, after which she’ll say yes and call her boyfriend over.

5. The nicest guy of them all will marry this woman after she’s ridden the international cock carousel and take care of those nasty student loans of hers… and probably buy her a car to boot.

Exactly. She's going to go buy "supplies" for the trip, like a Marc Jabobs bag.

I don't think an alpha badboy would be fucking her if she is too old.

But, if he is, you can bet that money is going to him in some way.

I was on the street yesterday and I saw some guy macking on this girl. He was following her around etc. then he went into a deli with her, and you can tell that he bought her a fiji water.

When they came out, I opened them and started talking to her about the music I do etc. not only did I get her number in front of him, but she let me have a sip of her water:

me: Oh- is that fiji water? That's supposed to be the best one.

her: You want to try it?

Gives me the water. I drank almost all of it, but left her a like two sips.

As an isolated case, not a big deal. But I think people are seeing it as representing a larger problem. When guys just let loose their instinct to be daddy on every random female, you end up with a female population that is isolated from reality and responsibility and who become spoiled children.

I don't agree with the people saying he was trying to get sex. He could get much better for $1000 than a middle aged waitress and it seems that he had never met the woman before (not a regular who is likely to see her again). He was just getting off on being nice. There are no doubt better uses for his money but he can spend it how he wants. You can't overcome instinct and men have the instinct to take care of women and children. But guys need to learn to control themselves a little bit for their own good and try to keep that sort of thing to people they have actual relationships with.

And we certainly shouldn't applaud the guy. He did it because it felt good and was basically masturbating.

The way you earn a living doesn't define you as a person if you're a woman. For men it's everything.

I think the point is that she can't complain or be surprised about being poor when she spent 8 years studying art. Spoiled child mentality. I should be able to study what interests me rather than develop a marketable skill and still have $ to go to Italy.

So instead of "giving back" to a children’s hospital or needy family, you’d give a flirty waitress $1000?

If the guy has $1,000 to blow on a random encounter with a friendly waitress who made him feel good about himself for 45 minutes, he probably has needy beggars asking him for shit all the time. Choosing to help send this woman to Italy gives him a sort of satisfaction and feeling of control over his life that he would not get by giving the money to a hospital, where it would just change a number on a non-profit ledger somewhere. Not to mention the fact that he might feel guilted into the donation by self-serving hypocritical assholes.

When you’re at their restaurant, they’ll act feminine and sweet, make eye contact, smile at you, actively participate in conversations, even unnecessarily touch you and flirt.

Don’t buy this crap. If they’re not doing this with you on the street or in grocery stores, it’s probably all just an act to get your money.

Consider that there's almost no chance this man does this regularly for every waitress who bats him a flirty eyelash. It seems far more likely that this waitress was chatty enough that he felt a connection and for him that feeling was worth $1,000.

True it happens for women more than men and this quite obviously plays into the feminine imperative but sometimes a gift is just a random act of kindness. Reading too much into it is bad for your own health.
