Testosterone, it is no revelation

Lately I've been reading a lot in the manosphere about testosterone. Yes, it incredibly important and I think everyone should have their T checked. Full disclosure, I'm on TRT as we speak.

What I want to talk about though is why everyone is acting like this is some major discovery by us? It simply isn't. We're not even close to being the first folks to figure out that testosterone is closely related to all the things that make men manly and amazing.

The sanctimonious discussions acting like we're Columbus and just discovered America here make us all look kinda dumb. We should acknowledge those that went before us and just say, yes, we're slow on the uptake, but we finally have seen the light.

Here is one article out of literally thousands that predate our discussions by 13 years:

http://www.nytimes.com/2000/04/02/magazi...all&src=pm

"It has a slightly golden hue, suspended in an oily substance and injected in a needle about half as thick as a telephone wire. I have never been able to jab it suddenly in my hip muscle, as the doctor told me to. Instead, after swabbing a small patch of my rump down with rubbing alcohol, I push the needle in slowly until all three inches of it are submerged. Then I squeeze the liquid in carefully, as the muscle often spasms to absorb it. My skin sticks a little to the syringe as I pull it out, and then an odd mix of oil and blackish blood usually trickles down my hip.

I am so used to it now that the novelty has worn off. But every now and again the weirdness returns. The chemical I am putting in myself is synthetic testosterone: a substance that has become such a metaphor for manhood that it is almost possible to forget that it has a physical reality. Twenty years ago, as it surged through my pubescent body, it deepened my voice, grew hair on my face and chest, strengthened my limbs, made me a man. So what, I wonder, is it doing to me now?"

Don't be a hipster. [Image: wink.gif]

I have been beating the drum about testosterone for 15 or more years.

I wrote my college these in 2001, called, "Politically Correct Language and the Destruction of the Alpha Male Persona." I showed how language/thought patterns impact hormones.

But it takes a long time for information to trickle down.

Most people are not visionaries. There are still people who refuse to believe that 95% of pro athletes (even the ones who don't look like it, e.g., golfers) are juicing.

I'm just glad the information is finally getting mainstream.

Friends of mine have written in to say they got on TRT after reading my Facebook posts - some relatively important people.

The more people who know, the easier it is for me to get testosterone.

As frustrating as it is for me to always be 10-15 years ahead of everyone else, I'm happy when people learn the truth because it benefits me.

God bless the people jumping on the bandwagon.

yeah that is true I just can't stand it when folks are writing now and acting like they discovered this.

Game is pretty much all the same way anyhow. I re-watched Swingers for the 50 millionth time the other night. That movie summed it all up and that was in the 90's. The fact that we're "figuring it out" now is ridiculous.

What about infertility ? It's basically the "pill" for men. If you're sure you'll never want to have kids or already have them, it's ok to me. But doing TRT as a young man just to be huge and to be able to come 5 times a night but ruin your fertility is not a smart move imho.

You don't get trt just to become huge. You get it if you are clinically deficient.

I am in my 40's and dabble with Sustanon every so often, I cannot begin to tell you the difference it makes on my overall well-being.

I don't need Viagra, although I know many guys alot younger than me that use the stuff.

Good article. I started reading about testosterone due to MikeCFs blogging and linking to that same article a while back. Everyone should read it.

You can inject HCG every week to maintain your testicles active.

Its not just testosterone, its hormones and neurotransmitters in general. Im amazed that psychiatrists are so quick to medicate for this stuff and understand the impact and influence it has on the individual, while everyone from academics to government policy makers to businesses ignore the impact it has on human behavior and decision making.

I will be doing the odd course when I am in my 40's. I know a ton of guys who were using the juice as a way to get over their injuries quicker and get back into shape for the season after a long layoff.

Here's a piece regarding the links between red wine and testosterone...

Can red wine boost your testosterone?

New research may suggest a glass or two a night

A compound in red wine could increase levels of testosterone circulating in your body by inhibiting the way you excrete the hormone, according to new research in Nutrition Journal.

Normally, one of the ways testosterone is eliminated from your body is through urine. An enzyme called UGT2B17 attaches specific molecules to testosterone, enabling your body to get rid of it. But researchers at Kingston University in London found that quercetin--a compound in red wine--blocks UGT2B17 in lab studies. That means potentially elevated T levels in your bloodstream, and less in your urine.

How about boosting it naturally and legally - tips on what actually works? (presumably none of this goatweed shit or ActivexTribu3000Pump..)

from my personal experience and I have clinical hypogonadism, there was no natural way to boost my T. I tried everything under the sun for about a year.

nothing works.

In a recent experiment, researchers measured the testosterone levels of 76 men. Then the subjects were videotaped as they tried to get the attention of an attractive woman. At the end of the study, the female rated how much she clicked with each guy on a 7-point scale.

The results: Men with higher T levels were more likely to connect with the bombshell. They also took control of the conversation and overshadowed the other guys that were hitting on her.

I'm not providing anything revolutionary here, but I personally go Vitamin D/Fish oil (10,000 IU/2 capsules, respectively), creatine, and eat a ton of red meat and butter (slather the meat in it if you want to, TBH i find nothing works better diet-wise for me for body recomposition including leaner meats like chicken/fish). Brazil nuts for the selenium (MaxEffectiveDose seems to be 4 individual nuts, any more and you're not getting much more ROI). Obviously work out a ton too. I don't know if i would trust pure testosterone supplements myself, especially considering all of the nutritionally-based ways I've been able to get results.

I have a friend who is a PA who could get me synthetic (patches or injections) but I haven't had to go that route yet.

Also, cold showers are supposed to help a ton but I never bother. I've done it in the past and it can be miserable during a Midwest winter.

Meh.

I have considerably above average total & free testosterone (800 and 160 respectively), and I'm rail thin, deal with a lot of mood disorder bullshit, and have had to work exceedingly hard to improve my self-confidence.

It's a hormone, not a magic bullet.

Nah, I eat like a pig.
There are genetic factors at work in hypertrophy and personality besides hormonal ones.

But alcohol lowers testosterone. I think you can get quercetin from other, healthier sources.

We're only talking about a glass or two. Depending on what you've eaten and your body weight, this is practically nothing.

I think you might not appreciate the extent to which issues important to men, like testosterone, get absolutely no air play.

Your T level is your virile masculinity. Every man should be consciously aware of this, but most are not.

Testesterone was not discovered by manosphere, but manosphere talks about it's importance and methods to increase it. Nobody else talks about it except bodybuilders and top sportsmen. Manosphere brings this knowledge to every man willing to better himself.

Sometimes things get discovered, but the discovery lies forgotten written in a dusty old book in the most remote corner of library. Then, maybe centuries later, someone takes this book and brings out the knowledge to people outside of library.

America was first discovered by vikings. But they didn't talk about it much and it was forgotten. Then Colombus discovred it again, but he madi it wide known. therefore we remember him as the discoverer and rightly so.

Man, you're really pissed about this. You left an emotional comment on my blog too (http://www.rooshv.com/how-to-warm-up-bef...ment-80966 ). Guys are getting value from it, because it's new information for them, and you are experiencing grief over it.

I'm no discoverer of this hormone, but it's not common knowledge for many men that it helps them achieve things they want in life, particularly getting laid. I apologize greatly if my mentioning it to readers offends you. If in the future I blog about something you have long since known, please email me and I will delete it from my blog. I don't want to cause you any more annoyance.

Columbus did not discover America, there were people living here already.

Most people are unaware how important Testosterone is, once they hear it is a steroid they start repeating all the bad things the media tells them.

There are worst threads on the forum at the moment.

I'm glad you guys got the irony of me saying that columbus discovered america. thats the point, he didn't.

Yes, it is good to bring this information to the manosphere. I 100% support it. What I don't support is the way that some commenters and posters are acting like this is their big discovery and contribution to the cause. It wasn't roosh that said it anyhow.

The point of the original comment was also to convey how if we're to be a serious group of people discussing serious topics then we need to give credit where credit is due and not act like we're breaking some new ground here.
