I started reading "Dead Bat in Paraguay" (its good) a few days ago and thought of something after I read about Roosh getting his wallet stolen in Quito. What do you guys think about a decoy wallet, or "muggers wallet"? Has anyone tried this?

It's a good idea. However, if I'm somewhere really sketchy, I prefer to not have any wallet on me at all. I just carry a photo copy of my passport, maybe the equivalent of $30USD in my front pocket, the key to my hostel room and that's it. The most valuable thing I may carry is a camera, but I've now got a broken digital camera that I'll take on the next trip as a decoy camera.

Its definitely a good idea. If I think to do it when in a bad area, I'll put $10 in a wallet and carry most of my money in a place that muggers won't check...

Once I got out of my car in a bad neighborhood, and had a feeling my friend and I were going to get mugged. I left most of my money and my phone in the car, and took ten bucks in my wallet instead. Sure enough, we got mugged...

Usually the muggers are too worried about getting away clean to care how much they're actually getting. I say 'usually' from my two experiences being robbed at gunpoint...

I thought this was pretty funny from that article: "Most people (men anyway) carry their wallet in their right back pocket and their cell phone on their belt."

What planet does that cat live on?

I once made a decoy a wallet, using an old wallet, and put in various business cards, library card, an old frequent flier card, etc, and would toss it in my suitcase whenever i went overseas.
I never ended up using it though.

Since getting ganked in Quito I haven't replaced the wallet. I just put the cash and whatever cards I need.

Both times were in Philadelphia, where I live. Both either in or near North Philly. Once, just out of high school, and once when I was in a neighborhood that I shouldn't have been it, at night...

The first time was in the middle of the day, and we never saw it coming. Two guys working in a team, with pistols, they were good...one pretending to tie his shoe up the street, another following us from behind (me and my 3 buddies). We weren't paying attention, and even if we were, like I said, the guys knew what they were doing...

The second time I knew it was going to happen...I just followed my buddy because I didn't want him to go where he was going alone, so I left everything in the car, and used the 'fake wallet' technique...

In SP, who has a car often do this. The one to be stolen stays at the front with some changes and an old cellphone.
The real one stays behind, on the luggage.
