Funny read. I still don't understand the concept of paying $400 for a bottle of alcohol.

Some people prefer paying a shitload of money to be accepted by other people.

A shitload of money to be around other douches, for the most part. Models are nice, but in NYC, you don't need to go to clubs to meet them.

that $400 would buy you a lot of temporary friends and social proof in a regular mid-upscale bar in that city. No reason to go to clubs. That same money just makes you one of the crowd there. However, i wouldn't spend that either way, unless on myself in an epic night of binge drinking. Then again, i don't drink like I used to. 4-5 Kettles on ice is a good night for me. In New York thats 50 USD max, or maybe 80 USD max in a higher end place.

Some people pay 400 a bottle because they want to look like they have enough money not to care. Some people spend 400 a bottle because they have enough money that they don't care. You will find both types in Manhattan.

true, but if your the former, you have some issues to work out, imo...or else you better be doing it for business reasons...

When I was younger and in NY or Miami I would sometimes get bottle service with a few friends at some of the more exclusive clubs. If you're a heavy drinker (or that guy who keeps ordering shots for everyone) sometimes it would work out to be a reasonable deal compared to ordering drinks straight from the bar. The extra cost is reasonable to most people if you're at a club where all the best chicks are in a secluded VIP. My huge problem with bottle service, however, was never really the price. It was that you get virtually NO service. There you are drunk out of your mind trying to be cool and mix some hot chick a drink at your table and you're filling the glass with way too much Grey Goose and mixing in some nasty warm cranberry juice and your drinks come out tasting like shit. Why the hell isn't the cocktail waitress who is getting paid a mandatory 20% tip not mixing every one of my drinks? And why the hell are we drinking Grey Goose anyways?

What I really would like instead of bottle service is a personal bartender. You pay whatever ridiculous amount the club feels like charging, but for that amount each table has its own bartender who will mix whatever drink you want all night. I can drink Jack all night, the chicks can drink whatever retarded drinks they drink and we can all do shots of Patron when needed. And if I feel like a beer at the end of the night I can just get a cold beer. If you're going to waste a ton of money on drinks you should at least be able to enjoy them.

That NY Post article was one of the best social articles ever put out by the Post - I've been to several of those clubs and a few others like Pink Elephant and Kiss & Fly - I stopped going last year simply because it now takes me 2 days to recover from a night I am out till 3:00 a.m. I turn 35 this Sunday.

While I would not rave and plan my life to hit these places more than a few times a year - they are some of the best places and parties I have ever been too - if you can get in and its a good night its over the top - True Kirk stories -

The first time my wife and I tried to get in to a high end club with a strict door was a place on Hudson Street in Manhattan called 'Level V' - it has since closed and turned into a sports bar. I am white - 6 foot 210 pounds - my wife is white and 5' 4" about 115 pounds - nice dimensions (even better then because she was nursing 38C on a small frame) Anyway - we got out that night shortly after my son was born. He was a puker and unloaded on Mrs. Kirk after she had gotten dressed for the night. Driving through the midtown tunnel I was asked if i could smell rotten milk. I lied.

After having dinner at a nearby Brazilian place we walked over and got rebuffed at the Level V door by a big tall black guy. 30 years ago this guy could not be below 98th street in Manhattan without the cops f'ing with him and now I got shut down. He is probably a convicted felon and if I caught him around my house after dark I'd probably shoot him but its a kick in the groin but what else could I do. At that time I wore crummy men's warehouse suits that, as Rossy says, were 2 sizes to large that there posted size -

After going to Hugo Boss and spending over 2000k on good a good suit jacket - pants and shoes - tie, the whole damn thing - I have never been shut down at the door anywhere else and only forced to buy a bottle of champagne once. All my good clothes are Boss and that is not even a really expensive label. On that issue Mike P. Mason over at G Manifesto really shines - instead of having to listen to fags, douchebags or hipsters talk about clothes - we have him and others he has linked to over time. Suits just open doors.

Just a note - the bouncers at these places will know what you spent on your wardrobe - the cut of the suit, or the jacket, or high-end slacks underneath and the shoes give it away everytime. They are used to seeing really high end clientele coming and they will spot a $199.99 Calvin Klein department store suit everytime - I can now but that's only from seeing it from both sides of the coin. Same thing for women in that they will know that you bought a 29.99 'club dress' from who knows where - shoes and handbag give it away everytime - however if you are 5'10" and built like there's no tomorrow - you dont have to worry.

Anyway - about these places generally - for some new guys that want to try them - they start real late and the doors dont really open until 11:00 pm and they the places increase in activity through to about 3:30 a.m. - I have left Pink Elephant in NY at 2:30 in the morning and there are 200 people on line trying to get in - obviously the later you get there the more difficult it will be to get in - after about 12:45 for men you are looking at 1k bottle service charge - you will have to drop A LOT of cash to get in. For women `- you had better be a 9 or a 10 at that point.

The girl/guy ratio is about 70/30 - one or two good looking and well dressed men have about a 30% shot at getting in the door when the place first opens by only paying the cover charge (usually 20$ or 30$) - after 12:00 or 12:30 you will need bottle service. 30% of the men are probably making the Club 70% of its profit - This is what men pay to get into these places and rub silicone enhanced tits all night. The interior are way overpacked which adds to the atmosphere - with my arms around my wife and sloshed on vodka - all I felt all night were (other women's) tits from my shoulders to forearms - on my chest - you would think they were humping me. As the night goes on, people just get more stoned and drunk and are on each other. If you do get bottle service and you have a place to sit down - it should not take much work on your part to score. (Narcotics are not my scene though) and I did not see any being used. In the old days - any bathroom by NYU on Bleecker Street sounded like a vacuum cleaner test ground - not anymore.

On a good night - I would say the average score of a female in this places is a 7.5 - that would be the mean and median so to speak. You will get a host of 8 and 9 - maybe 3 or 4 tens. You won't see any lower than a very tarted up 6.5. Average age of female is 22 or 23 I would say. These places tend to run 75% white, 15% Asian and 10% for everyone else. Generally at any high end place, there are very few black patrons although the door staff and bouncers are all black.

I'll post more later on this - I gotta turn in.
