A 23-year-old woman who slapped a man in the face after he grabbed her rear end has been convicted of assault by a court in southern Sweden.

The 27-year-old who made the unwanted move escaped charges for the incident after a preliminary criminal investigation was dropped.

"This goes to show that it's okay for guys to grab girls any way they want," the 23-year-old woman told the Metro newspaper.

The woman reacted when the 27-year-old man put his hand on her buttocks at Glorias nightclub in Lund last summer.

She instinctively turned to confront the man who grabbed her and hit him in the face so hard she broke the 27-year-old's nose.

In its ruling the Lund District Court agreed that the woman was subject to a "serious provocation", but ultimately ruled her actions couldn't be considered as acting in self-defence.

The court convicted the 23-year-old woman of assault, slapping her with a suspended sentence and a 2,500 kronor ($380) fine, the Sydsvenskan newspaper reported.

She must also pay 1,860 kronor in damages to the man, who had originally demanded 25,000 kronor as compensation for the injuries he suffered during the incident.

The investigation into the 23-year-old's sexual assault complaint was dropped, however, due to a lack of evidence.

Sounds reasonable to me. $300 for a broken nose is on the low end.

There's actually nothing surprising about this conviction.

"Slap" is reframing what sounds a lot more like a "punch" or heel-of-hand strike if she really broke the guy's nose.

If she really just slapped the guy I'd say good for her. It's rude to grab someone's ass you don't know.

What's interesting is the way news reframes the terms of the debate so the outcome is pretty much determined at the publication of the article;

Examples, "deadbeat dads", "death tax", "freedom fighters" vs. "terrorist"-- people including myself don't even realize how they are constantly manipulated.
Oh and my favorite, Goldman Sachs thieves getting tens of millions in bonuses being called "job creators".

I think Sweden and other Nordic countries are all about equality more than feminism. The feeling I get from them is that men and women should be treated the same. So if a girl excessively reacts to something, she should be treated the same as a guy doing the same.

In USA on the other hand, it's never been about equality; it's been about women getting more for less. "Ross, dress for less"

Women in Europe are all about the Prada. Women in the USA are all about the TJ Maxx. Totally different outlook on life.

Yeah. An appropriate reaction would have been to turn around and slap his face, perhaps call him an asshole and that´s it. Not to punch him in his face and break his nose. (principle of proportionality)

Haha, in India I read that one girl reacted loudly to a guy teasing her (catcalling) and he ran away. After he ran away, she proceeded to...

... drop his motorcycle to the ground and set fire to it.

She was lauded by the police for this.

It would be mad easy to get away with grabbing an ass at a club. It would be too hard to convict. As simple as saying it wasn't me, there were lots of people around. I supposed it's possible to get evidence from the cameras, but even then the club may be too crowded to see.

Grabbing girls' asses like that is Omega. It's shit like that which will get street harassment laws on the books and make it more difficult for aspiring players.

If a gay guy came up to me and grabbed my balls, I'd probably break his nose.

This happened to a friend of mine on the subway. My friend knocked the guy out.

Agreed. I don't even mind the chick busting his nose really.

"I think Sweden and other Nordic countries are all about equality more than feminism."

Maybe at an individual level, but at a societal level this is false. Taxes are incredibly confiscatory in Sweden for both Men and Women, however, men typically earn a little more so, they pay more. In addition to this, women receive on average 54% more benefits from the government in their lifetimes than men. Considering that a man's work and money are the foundation for a traditional relationship and considering the fact that the men there are robbed at gunpoint via the government tax collectors to give their funds to women who reciprocate such work by treating their men worse, I wouldn't say that Swedish feminism is about equality at all. Just like in the states feminism there is all about giving women the same rights as men, with no responsibilities, in addition to additional special privileges and benefits for being a woman.

Hen, broken nose Scott free?

I have no idea what KorbenDallas is talking about. Tax by gender doesn’t exist.

This is not a defeat for feminism, it is a resounding triumph.

I agree with the court completely and am glad to see a bit of common sense in Sweden (particularly after Assange). What he did was idiotic and rude, but it is in no way an attack that deserves such retaliation.

Not what he's claiming. Men a working harder under more dangerous circumstances, making more money and thus paying more in taxes. However, more benefits are being paid out to women. Beat your strawman somewhere else.

Strawman? That part about not knowing what he was talking about pass you by?

Without context his post is still incomprehensible. For example families are allowed a year of paid parental leave which can be split any way between father/mother. Typically that means the woman stays home for a majority of that allotted time because she earns less. If you want to be bullheaded about women receiving more benefits I guess the man could take a bigger slice of the parent leave and stay at home as a matter of principle. The end result is that the family makes less. Thus I don't see what's being argued.

So what are these "special privileges and benefits for being a woman"? Seriously.

BAH, I imagine if I broke noses every time a girl touches my ass xD

"Christian love bears evil, but it does not tolerate it. It does penance for the sins of others, but it is not broadminded about sin. Real love involves real hatred: whoever has lost the power of moral indignation and the urge to drive the sellers from temples has also lost a living, fervent love of Truth."

A slap in self defense to an ass grab sounds reasonable and proportionate to me. However, since a slap is highly unlikely to break someone's nose, I wonder what else they're lying about here.

And if charges were dropped on the ass grab, did it even happen whatseover, or is it her defense for punching him after he said something she disagreed with?

If I broke noses every time some aggressive slut ass grabbed me I'd be doing time in the penitentiary. Interesting conviction though.
