NYT throws Ray from Girls under the bus
03-20-2013, 09:16 AM
From the NYT article on the season finale of Girls:
"Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) breaks up with Ray (Alex Karpovsky), a loser with no joy or prospects..."
Ray manages a coffee shop for a growing independent coffee shop chain. The owner of the chain has just put him in charge of opening a big new shop in a fashionable neighborhood, and regards him as a protege who is in line to take over the business eventually.
He talks about going back to school to finish his PhD in "Latin Studies," so he has a bachelor's degree, has been admitted to a PhD program, and has completed some work toward that degree. He also writes and performs music around Brooklyn with his friend Charlie.
All around, no superstar, but not a failure either--a pretty average guy. But to the New York Times, this qualifies him as a loser who is way out of Shoshanna's league--Shoshanna, a flaky, awkward college student.
Just another of example of how only the top 10% or 20% of men count at all, while the bottom 80% are unthinkingly written off as losers.

What is this show "Girls"? I don't think it's been discussed here before.

Don't feed the troll gentlemen (that is Lena Dunham). It’s in all our best interest to simply ignore this abomination.

this is more troubling:
"It may be a season finale dream, but the subliminal message of “Girls” is healthy — up to a point. A woman doesn’t have to look like a model to be loved by a man. She can be crazy, manipulative and narcissistic and she will be loved for that too."

I'm going to be snobby and concur with the loser label. Ray sounds like a hipster failure. He is a dropout from a victim-studies degree who works as a barrista with artistic pretentions, rudderless with no career.
A guy like that might seem interesting to a naive college girl. But as she approaches graduation, she will see his absence of ambition and growth. She will meet other guys with real plans for professional school, jobs, travel, etc.
Contrast Roosh, who finished his degree and worked as a scientist. Then when changed focus he maintained his blog and wrote ten books. You can criticize him, but not for lack of focus or dedication.
Many other guys here ask advice about school, job relocation, and careers. They are proactive, making plans, much better than an aimless hipster.

Taking television so seriously is what people in North America do. Its a shit culture full of imbeciles that take imaginary situations and let it fill up their empty lives.
Do not look at my avatar btw.

Whats worse is that this show and the topic of Lena Dunham has indirectly managed to infiltrate this forum constantly for some time now. It doesnt matter if the show has some red pill elements or not because at the end of the day the bottom line is that this is a chick show better suited for retarded hipster females .
