Good hotel in Phnom Penh

Im looking for a relatively cheap ($30/night) hotel in Phnom Penh for a 4 day trip. Something near some good bars/clubs, clean and will not try to keep girls from coming up to my room. Anybody know of a place like this?

For anybody needing info, I stayed at Palace II on street 178, riverfront. $20/night (through agoda), clean and good WIFI. Staff was fine with me bringing up girls.

Most of the smaller, family run hotels and guesthouses should have no problem with bringing girls to the room. You can always ask too.
I stayed at a place called Lucyk Ro a couple of blocks off Riverside. They had no problems with me bringing girls back and the room was about 20 bucks a night.

The homepage shows nicer pictures than back in 2010, maybe they renovated:

I highly recommend Pacific Hotel. Really great value for the money and very satisfied with their services. No problem to bring chicks. I stayed there 5 nights in January.

Any nightlife recommendations? I'm heading over there next week.

I prefer local-style discotheques where middle-class folks can be found.

No, sorry. I haven't gone out at night other than to eat. What day are you coming in?

Oh, are you there right now? Nice. I have no idea what day I'm coming in. Going to check out Angkor Wat for a few days first and maybe even Tonle Sap. Probably won't hit Phnom Penh until next weekend, I imagine.

Anyways, Rio has dropped a couple good recommendations on nightclubs there. Just thought you might have something to add.

Have fun. If you're not heading straight back to BKK, let me know and I'll hit you up when I get there.

No info on the clubs. However, if you stay along the riverfront, you can walk around there during the afternoon/early evening and game tourist girls. Also pros/semi-pros come there to chill out.

I talked to a girl out there for a few minutes. We had a good vibe and went straight back to my room. She asked me for money but from what I understand, that's almost always the case in PP, even if a girl "likes" you.

Check out St. Tropaz and also Darlin Darlin inside of the casino. Darlin Darlin is a weird place, pretty nice decor and a live Filipino band. Could probably game the chick singer. Spoke with her briefly as she was leaving but she was in a large group. Maybe a different band now though.

Went to St. Tropaz and it was cool. I dont think the chicks were Cam tho. I think they were Korean plus it was a Tuesday. Cool little vibe. Most drivers know where it is at.

I went to the casino but didnt hit the lounge. Had a bad vibe with the dickhead Chinese there. A few pros were dressed up to hit the lounge though. It suppose to be a good spot regardless.

The cycle of disrespect can start with just an appetizer.

Kings guest host is good. Clean, safe, cheap and in the centre of town.

I stayed in a hotel called 'G Eleven'. It is very clean and the rooms are very large with a large double bed and a big TV, a computer for anyone to use and a smallish swimming pool too. I think it was just a tad over $30 a night but was very nice. I walked to the clubs - it is a slight walk but nothing too difficult. And once you know the way it is fine and very easy. I had done that walk many times, but I've also heard how it isn't safe to walk at night (only heard that after I had done the walk several times).

With women that go back to your room after a few minutes, yes. I'd venture that's probably the case in any Asian country.

Let's face it, it's not normal for women from these cultures to bomb back to a guy's room on first meeting, especially after a brief introduction. So if that happens, it's likely you've snagged a freelancer. In fact, it's becoming very clear to me the longer I stay that normal Cambodian girls simply do not sleep around. Even if they're poor - in fact, poor women have more to lose by tarnishing their reputation.

Not trying to call you out specifically, but one thing that guys on here seem to be having a really hard time wrapping there head around is that there are "different worlds" in Cambodia just like many of us have realized there are two different Thailands - just like there are different societal paradigms in any country you visit.

Don't get me wrong - I take the easy pussy on a platter as well, but I think this picture of all Cambodian women being semi-prostitutes is extremely misleading, even if it seems that way to you based on a short visit.

Just something to think about...

Game on.

Probably.

But the real key note here was that if you bring a woman back to your room within a few minutes of meeting her, don't be surprised if she asks for money or assume that her doing so applies to all women within the country. Especially in a place where a) white men are usually passing through and therefore assumed to fraternize with hookers rather than upstanding women and b) women are generally expected to be sexually conservative and are deathly afraid of being labeled as one of those girls.

For the most part, women who bang that soon in a place like this are pro or damaged goods in some other way. Reputation is everything. In fact, most Cambodian women wouldn't be caught dead hanging around in a bar or disco at all, and especially not alone. That's just not how things are done at all. She might go out once in a long while but only on special occasions and with a mixed group of guy and girl friends, like a birthday for instance. They'll have a couple pitchers of beer (the best ones will sip a soda while their friends drink) and dance in a group for a little while before going home.

I had a conversation with a Cambodian waiter the other night while watching an Apsara Dancing Show - man a couple of the women on stage were the cutest things you've ever seen, so naturally I had to shoot for the inside scoop. Apparently, the most beautiful young women here have never even had a boyfriend before. These are the true quality girls. His English was iffy, but my understanding from talking to him was that these top notch women have a lot more to lose by dating casually as high-quality local men will be less likely to pursue and marry them.

It makes sense. By being the best-looking women, they have the potential to get a free ride for life. If they throw that away by sleeping or even dating around, they become just another girl with a pretty face. So I imagine they hold out as long as possible until they're absolutely sure the guy after them has a lot going for him and is prepared to stick with her for the long run (read "for life").

As for hookers and freelancers, Rio is right - $0 and some game will be plenty, as many guys on here have found over and over again. Hookers are people too and sometimes just want to get fucked by a guy they find attractive. One problem in Cambodia, though - as opposed to Thailand - is they're more likely to try and go back on the agreement in the morning and play dumb about it being a shore, even if the agreement was clear.

After a few of these experiences, I'm beginning to chalk it up to the fact they have a few drinks and make a loose decision and then regret it in the morning - or the fact that you don't take them out to breakfast and treat them like a short-time gf (if they're going to get treated like a whore when they give you free puss, why not get paid, right?). And then some are deliberately conning you, I'm sure.

Other local women may be down, especially if they work in a tourist center, but don't expect them to hop on the d after the first conversation - some work will be needed. You might think you pulled a decent girl who wasn't working, and she may never even ask for money, and then you'll see her out a couple nights later at a bar known for pros, hanging with her most recent customer. And another the next night.

As for price, if you don't want to bother gaming a pro, which I can understand, it should be up for negotiation. Could run anywhere from $5 - $60, depending on your looks and vibe. Make sure you clear the price before you leave the bar or you may see back-at-room-inflation.
