UFC 158: Georges St-Pierre vs Nick Diaz

Who do you guys think will win?

I have been down with Nick Diaz's steez ever since the Robbie Lawlor fight back in 2004.

I like his attitude and he is funny as sh*t. Super cocky too. I he rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but I don't have an issue with big talkers/cocky people. Hell, I have been know to be described the same way.

He has got a real good fighting style and is always fun to watch. A real master of mental warfare as well. I like how his disses guys and gets in their head. His brother Nate is pretty dope too.

I ran into Georges St-Pierre a couple times in Montreal and actually went 1-1 against him. He seemed like a super cool, down to earth cat.

Super exciting to watch as well. I like that he parties. All the best athletes party.

I think this is one of the most interesting UFC fights in a long time.

Who do you guys think will win?

Weigh in (so to speak).

These guys are actually two of my favorite fighters - I'm super excited for this fight but dont know who to root for. I've always been a big GSP fan but lately he has been winning boring fights while Diaz has had that "I will fight anyone, anywhere, anytime, and I will stand and brawl with you and not give two shits, then after I knock you out I will smoke a fat joint because I want to" attitude that is awesome to watch.

That being said, GSP isnt stupid enough to trade with him, GSP takes him down over and over again, beats him up a little while a frustrated Nick taunts, complains, and yells at GSP to stop being a pussy and fight, while GSP wins 49-46 on all cards. But a part of me hopes Diaz knocks him out then tests positive for marijuana for the 3rd time.

I think GSP will win due to his wrestling. His will probably just take Diaz down and hold him there for 5 rounds.

The only way Diaz wins is if he can submit GSP on the ground or if GSP gets cocky and decides to stand and box with Diaz. However, I don't see this happening. GSP cares more about winning nowadays than being stylish or exciting. GSP will make this fight a 5 round wrestling match, which is a shame since it will probably end up being a boring fight.

I have the same problem with him as I do with Rousey--they complain too much. WAAAA my life is so hard! Shut up and fight--which they both do well. I used to hate playing ball with dudes that bitched and moaned all the time. I hope GSP beats that ass.

Can't stand the Diaz brothers.

Loved watching Nate Diaz get his ass handed to him by Ben Henderson. It was like a tiger toying with a dysfunctional rat.

GSP has become boring. I hope he either gets mad enough to try and finish Diaz or gets KTFO.

Diaz is a bit of a show but is very entertaining inside the octagon.

Raised my eyebrows with that remark. Had to go and read the piece.

I have GSP.

Nice to see G Manifesto highlighting MMA.

The stand up could go either way but I see GSP having a slight advantage there. Either way if Diaz lands a couple, GSP will revert back to takedown, ground and pound - 5 round decision.

It's funny you say that, because isn't the word that Diaz has the edge with his hands and stand up? GSP has been working on that part of his game, and Freddie Roach just called bullshit on Diaz's superior boxing rep. I don't have any idea myself.

Roach is coaching GSP, right? So grain of salt, I guess.

I have to edit this comment again to walk my post back--Roach called bullshit on the idea that Diaz has the best hands in the UFC. He may not have been challenging the idea that Diaz's hands are better than GSP's.

Also from the article:

Quote:Quote:

“When Georges St-Pierre first came here his technique wasn’t that good, but it’s getting better and better now,” he explained. “The thing is that most of the guys in MMA or the UFC have history in the ground game and so on, so it’s more new to them. A lot of times they’ve never been taught on how to do it correctly.”

Now Roach says GSP is more than ready to counter Diaz’s striking when the two face off Saturday in Montreal. Also, Roach said Rua is already getting wowed by his coaching, saying that the fighter is pivoting the right way and punching off the correct foot.

But as far as Diaz goes, Roach has no impression that the fighter’s boxing is world-class.

“He’s very durable, got a lot of balls,” he said of Diaz. “But the thing is his boxing ability — It’s okay.”

My predictions and quick thoughts:

Diaz doesn't have the best hands in the UFC. I'd agree with Roach (Obviously, he's a pro and I'm a nobody) that his boxing isn't bad, but that Condit fight was ridiculous. He stood in front of Condit and let himself get picked apart, and basically cried when Condit didn't play the same game. It was just like Henderson moaning about Machida - if you're a brawler and the other guy isn't, you can't expect the other guy to give up all his strengths.

I wouldn't say Diaz has close to the best hands in UFC, thinking about it. But anyway, I don't mind his 'bad guy' thing. I don't mind it when Bisping or Sonnen or Mir do it either. I still think GSP will win. I don't know if GSP will finish him. If I were putting money on it I'd say UD, but GSP could always finish fights. I feel he's like a reverse Silva - with Silva, I expect the fight to finish by the end of the second, with GSP I don't expect the finish, but either of those could be wrong with any fight.

Dunno. Looking forward to it though.

This is going to look just like Bendo vs Nate

GSP via dominant decision

If i had to bet money id say GSP simply because he is so dominant at what he does, take people down and control them. He's also got great standup and can just dictate where the fight will go. Thing is Diaz imo has better bjj, boxing, endurance and heart than gsp. The biggest issue I think that will pose problems for Diaz is gsp's size. The dude walks around at 200ish pounds and usually begins cutting weight from 192. His strength combined with wrestling and good top game will prevent diaz from getting into his rhythm. Another thing is diaz moves forward and back and does not move laterally. He also tries to push opponents against the cage and land body shots. GSP will move around and keep distance and then take diaz down and try to control him the whole fight. Despite that I'm still gonna go for my boy diaz. Ive been a fan of his since he fought gomi and just the way he is, he always prepares for worst case situations. If his preparation is good I think he's got an exceptionally good chance at beating gsp.

Two of my favorites. I expect GSP to win because he is a better athlete and should be in better shape.

GSP via wrestling. Two of my favorite fighters, though GSP bores me now since he doesn't go for the finish. GSP probably has better traditional boxing skills, but Diaz may be the better striker. Diaz has always had trouble with strong wrestlers, and hasn't seemed to take the steps to remidy that. I see GSP taking him down and staying on top for 5 rounds while Diaz attempts submissions. Don't see GSP getting caught though, his Jiu Jitsu is on point and he's much stronger and bigger than Diaz.

GSP via unanimous decision.

Agree with everything here. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Even some Canadian fans are turning on GSP now. During one of the Montreal press conferences, a canadian fan asked a question in french. GSP translated it himself and the question was something like: "Georges are you going to go for the finish this time or just do the bare minimum to win again?"

That ws hilarious.

I hope and think St.Pierre will take it as he is the most likeable and versatile fighter of the two.... I have never been a huge fan of any of the Diaz brothers. Sometimes I wonder if they are from the ice age or have a chromosome failure when they talk.
