Google Reader is shutting down

Sucks man. I use it to read all my favorite blogs - including the ones on game and travel [Image: sad.gif]

It was the best RSS reader out there.

I second that. I loved it because it would sync across computer and my smartphone.

I use it for everything, including RooshV.com and ROK. The local and international news, opinion blogs, CrossFit sites, and on and on.

When you guys hear about replacements let me know. A reader is necessary for life.

I am seeking employment in Oslo, Norway. Any assistance is appreciated.

I use Google Chrome and take advantage of its massive library of extensions. I was looking into a replacement and RSS Feed Reader found in the Chome web store seems like a plausible alternative. I really haven't used it yet but, you can import your Google reader subscriptions with ease. I haven't looked for a mobile version yet.

I use Google Currents on my tablet. Works even better for me, I even stopped using Reader altogether.

This thread would immediately become useful as we get more suggestions on replacements. I almost cried when I saw the announcement, it's that vital to my information infrastructure.

I have never used any kind of reader...am I missing out? (I sound like G manifesto). Normally I just visit the websites.

It stops in a few months. 100% chance that some alternative will come up between now and then. I agree that it's a vital tool.

@ Menace, do you check 15 blogs seperately? Becomes a pain in the ass. With a reader, you immediately see which blog has an update and you can read all blogs from one screen.

I exclusively used google reader for following blogs. I followed 70+ at one time. It was great as it aggregated everything down to one location, I could share entries, tag, sort, and even get statistics about my habits all from one place. My only gripe was that sometimes pictures wouldn't show up or I would have to follow the actual rss feed and not the site to get the full entries.

I guess I only read <10 blogs regularly, so maybe it's not that useful...I will check out it's replacement though.

Love it, but truth is the only change will be moving my tons of unread itens elsewhere...

This one looks promising: http://readability.com/

If you're on a Mac you can then integrate it with Reeder, which is a handy desktop / iphone app that I've been using with Google Reader until now.

I've already started transferring all my subscriptions to Feedly. I already like it better oddly enough.

Shame, but maybe this means its time to stop consuming so much content. Firing up my RSS reader can mean anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours of a diversion. I think I'll just only visit the actual websites I can actually remember, when I remember to check them.

Feedly will copy your subscriptions if you log in with your google account.

I wonder why Google is getting out of this game. Google Reader seems alright to me.

They're official press release stated that they were starting to skinny down their product line to focus more on its core products.

I'm trying to use Newsblur. But Google was easily the best reader.

I can't have sex with your personality, and I can't put my penis in your college degree, and I can't shove my fist in your childhood dreams, so why are you sharing all this information with me?
