A simple weekend routine for New York City - the Lower East Side

Here is a simple routine for those of you who may be visiting NYC on a budget, or living in NYC on a budget. Right now, I don't have much to report on the high-end Meatpacking, but the quality in the LES is top notch.

For a warm-up, head over to People Lounge between 9 and 11 pm. The vibe is laid-back, casual, perfect for warm-up approaches. There is no cover and the Stella is reasonably priced at $6, cocktail prices are not terrible either. At around 10:30 or 11:00pm, gauge the atmosphere. Sometimes there are private parties so all the cutest girls are hanging off some guys arm. Sometimes the talent level can be high enough to stick around, and there is a good dance party upstairs. In this case, it is a good place to bring a chick upstairs for dancing, lead her back downstairs to grab a drink and talk, and back and forth, etc etc.

If the vibe is not good, take a 5-minute walk to Libation. The cover is usually $10 for guys. You will want to get there before 11:00pm to avoid the line and stake out a good spot in the bar. If the downstairs is too packed, stake out a spot at the bar upstairs. Drinks are not terribly priced for NYC but be prepared to pay more than People Lounge. The talent level at this bar is quite high. Sometimes there are NYU parties so you will be dealing with 19-22 year old NYU chicks, who are shockingly easy and usually vapid. NYU is sort of a school for superficial, mildly intelligent upper-middle class to rich girls who couldn't get into an Ivy or NESCAC. I promise you that the talent level will be high enough for a man with reasonable game to grab numbers and chances of a one-night stand are not bad. Be prepared to shell out for a cab as you will want to get the girl to your apartment/hotel quick before she has time to reassess her situation.

If you failed to get a one-night stand, hopefully you grabbed some numbers. If not, pop into Iggy's across the street on your way out. You may be able to use a street approach to grab a chick and bring her into Iggy's for a dirt-cheap drink. Or, you can see if there are any stragglers to approach in this bar.

If Iggy's and street game fails you, it is going to be late and you are going to be hungry. Pop over next door to Mikey's Burger for a delicious burger, fries, and a milkshake. There are likely to be cute chicks in there that may be approachable.

If the one-night stand is not in the cards, hopefully you got some numbers, ogled and chatted up some high-quality talent, and ate a delicious burger. Light up a cigarette before you take a cab or hop in the subway back to your place of residence.

Saturday night - rinse and repeat.

We should have these for every area of NYC. G put one up for SoHo and obviously there's a much different approach you have to take to the grittier LES.

The LES has about 2-3 years of lifespan in it, it will get blown up soon.

3 years ago it was on fire
2 years ago it was still the best spot in NYC
1 year ago it was infiltrated by upper middle class types but still had the grime feel to it
This year it is still the same as it was last year however the dress style has "classed up a bit"... bad news.

Have seen this story before, as soon as more members of the upper class get over there, the place is going to suck.

Pianos should be thrown in there. I've gotten a few one night stands from that joint. My wing banged a Russian girl there after only 15 min of talking to her.

I'm a big fan of arriving around 8 or 9 and committing to the venue on a weekend night. Show up too late and it will be told loud and crowded, and you might not even get in. If you can grab a seat at the middle of the bar on the first floor, or post up and control one of the tables, you'll have plenty of opportunities for approaches with girls buying drinks. There's always dancing upstairs but I wouldn't go up there unless you were bringing a girl up. Drinks are fairly priced at $5-6 a beer and $8 a Jameson. $5 cover to get to dance floor upstairs.

Meatball shop is a popular place to eat and is open pretty late. If you are solo just have a bite at the bar(can eat under$10) or just get a beer. I've gotten numbers talking to girls at the bar at 130am there.

Pianos is a tight spot.

I sometimes hit up Spitzers for a couple of tasty pints early in the night. The communal tables are a gamble, but you can end up next to a group of cute girls if you hit it right.

It seems like all the "cool" places in NYC are usually on the cusp of two different neighborhoods instead of being situated in just one area. Lots of bars & lounges are usually popping up on the "cusp" of East Village/LES, LES/Soho, Greenwich Village/West Village, etc etc so that only ppl in the know can find those spots. Used to travel to NYC couple times per year for work as that seems to be the increasing trend each time I've been out there.

I've got a couple NYC places I'd never reveal on this board. Shoot me a PM if you ever need a suggestion.

You should rephrase this as "Shit that place sucks NOW."

I remember Pianos.. I used to go there about 3x per week. My friends and I used to pull from there the most out of any place in NYC. My buddy met 2 of his girlfriends there, I've had several same night lays from there. It was our go-to spot... I stopped going there around July, because it somehow got REALLY bad. Sad really. RIP Pianos.. I have lots of good (and really bad) memories of that place. Pianos might be more of a winter spot though. Just make sure not to get there later than 10:30, unless you're prepared to wait in line and have an equal male:female ratio.

Seems like places in NYC come and go, sometimes they come in waves. Back in 2008/2009 I used to go to Gansevoort in MPD every week. Lots of blonde Russian tourists used to go there. In 2010 it started going down hill, was complete shit by 2012. It's still bad, but I've heard lately it can be hit or miss.

Yeah it's interesting places come and go within a 3 year frame or so in major cities. I agree now with keeping the go to fishing spot on the low and divulging the other Top few places on here.

No problems sharing with people IRL. But the cycle is the same.

1. Find sweet spot
2. Buncha dorks go in there fuck it all up
3. Place sucks
4. Search for new spot

Ha.
