OpenOffice should let you do this. I don't think it allows editing of the pdf.

I've got the dick so I make the rules.

PrimoPDF is completely free to download. When you run the program, you'll get an application on your desktop where you can simply click and drag the document onto it and it will convert it to a PDF file right on the desktop.

edit: I just checked mine and it does much more than word documents, as well.

Yeah just Save As > PDF, or if it's older Word version, use one of the online tools mentioned.

As far as editing...not too sure, but may be difficult since a PDF is supposed to be the "final" version of a document. Try this: http://www.investintech.com/products/desktop/editpdf/

I have Word 2004, and I can convert from word to pdf by selecting Print, and then choosing the PDF option.

Convert Word to PDF

As the others have said lad, you can choose File > Print and where the dropdown options are for which printer to select, there is an option to choose a PDF.

Adobe Acrobat lets you mess around with them like inserting/removing pages, etc.
