Golfer Phil Mickelson May Quit CA due to taxes

Article has a good breakdown on taxes including Prop 30 for CA residents, Obamacare, and increase federal taxes.

Him quitting seems like sensationalism just to get eyeballs on the story.

No way he is going to quit. I could see him relocating though and wouldn't blame him if he chose to.

NOBODY likes paying tax, but its needed.

Does he, with his 100's of millions want the poorer to pay more so he pays less?

Just hope the governments dont waste it on nonsense, prime example the FUGLY JuLIAR Gillard PM of Australia

[Maybe he can do a deal with Russian Putin like the French actor did?]

This sounds a bit premature. All he has to do is sell all of this real estate & business interests in California, and resettle in a state with no income tax (Texas, Florida, Nevada, etc.). That would save him 13.3% of his income right there. Sounds like he just wants to publicly state his unhappiness with California & the rising tax rates that were recently enacted at the federal level.

the poor dont pay any income tax. that seems unfair to me. im all for equality so lets just have a flat tax and end this class warfare shit.

btw most poor people put themselves in that situation by having kids they can´t afford, not working hard enough in school or spending money on shit they can´t afford putting themselves in debt(think housing bubble). every now and again i hear a heartbreak story usually an accident which lead to poverty but most poor folk simply let poverty happen to them.

He's just talking. It'll only be news if he actually does it, like Depardieu.

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

I always thought Phil Mickelson was an Arizona resident anyway...

This.

Example at a restaurant I manage we have one employee who to my knowledge is working 3 jobs and is having another kid.

I can't see Lefty putting the bag in the garage anytime soon.

Mickelson apologized for his rant...

"Finances and taxes are a personal matter, and I should not have made my opinions on them public. I apologize to those I have upset or insulted and assure you I intend to not let it happen again."

The real question is what is going to happen next. I personally think he going to move out of CA and establish his residency in a separate state. 13.3% of millions isn't insignificant.

Thanks to the expiration of the temporary 2% reduction in the payroll tax rate on the first $113,700 of self-employment income, Mickelson will have to fork over an extra $2,274 in tax during 2013, an additional burden that makes it hard to justify briskly walking as many as five miles per day, four days a week. In long pants, nonetheless.

yes. we are not talking about a 3rd world country with very little upward mobility. we are talking about the US. and if you can´t make it there i dont know where you can make it. you should read the millionaire next door G many of those millionaires in the book are often blue colar types or teachers who just save more than they spend and they become millionaires.

I agree with that part.

However, I have trouble agreeing that a poor kid born in the ghetto "put himself in that situation".

Which ghetto did you grow up in and were able to overcome to become a millionaire?

well, my original point was regarding taxes affecting adults and not children. obviously, as a kid you are a victim of your parental/family environnment. but when you become an adult you can make whatever decisions you want with your life. some people make bad decision irregardless if they grew up rich or poor and as a result end up poor adults. i guess what i am saying is if you grew up poor its going to be more of a struggle than if you grew up in the suburbs but the oppertunities for success are still available to you at least in the US.

It is easy to pass judgement on "poor people" when you have never missed a meal in your life.

Unless I have it all wrong. Feel free to correct me.

What industry?

You should share your story about how you overcame poverty and became a millionaire in The USA.

I am sure many people on the forum could learn from it.

G, I have had family leave very poor areas of cities when they were 18 and lead rewarding lives. For the sake of privacy, I won't elaborate. Nobody has a gun pointed at anybody's head forcing them to live in a ghetto in a city. How much does a Greyhound bus ticket cost? Yes, it takes a lot of hard work to rise above the class you are born into. Most people don't. Then again, most people don't workout, eat right, learn a second language, or even hold a passport.

I am sure that if people could, they would vote for the government to redistribute weight-loss gains from the metabolically "privileged" who hit the gym hard each morning while they are sleeping and eating donuts. Of course you would just cite the example of the poor kid born into a fat family. What obese family with poor eating habits did you rise above only to workout and get in shape? Why don't you share your story? I am sure people on the forum could learn from it.

Same difference.

I like your posts, but that was easily one of the strangest posts on the forum.
