Part of what set Tiger apart was that HE treated it like a sport. He trained the way athletes in contact sports trained. See his physique? He inspired other golfers to hit the weights a little bit and prepare themselves differently. It isn't contact, but it is an endurance sport to a certain extent. What separates the National Enquirer and other rags from mainstream papers and news outlets is that they'll pay sources for stories, which the more mainstream outlets will say is unethical. However, sometimes that's what you have to do to get the real scoop. Mainstream outlets won't pay, but they'll piggyback once the other outlet breaks it. They can always say that THEY didn't break it if it turns out to be bullshit, and use the excuse that other outlets are carrying the story, so they have to also due to competition. The Enquirer HAS broken some major stories that turned out to be true. They are willing to get down in the mud, and they'll always get the jump on certain kinds of stories because people with certain kinds of info (especially sex-oriented dirt) know they can get paid. They can get back at whoever they're ratting on, and profit from it.
