Kuala Lumpur Mini Report

I snuck away for two weeks, and just spent a week in KL. I have been to KL on business before, but never extended for long enough to get a feel for the place. Im in Vietnam now and I have 5 days in Nah Trang before 2 days in Saigon.

7 days is never long enough to provide much detail, so see this as a small review that provides an overview of the place without providing the kind of detail an extended run would provide.

Kuala Lumpur experience:

First two nights I was there I was with associates and clients. I was taken to Hard Rock Cafe, Thai Club and Beach Bar. What a load of shit, its wall to wall hookers. Some real belters, but I cant believe men would pay money to fuck some of those tired women. Some really nasty stuff about. These situations always put me into a difficult position, because whoring is a way of life for expats in Asia. And for local men with money, its like going for a piss in the morning. So I am stuck in these places surrounded by women who are all looking to get paid. I never want to insult or judge and nor do I, but at the same time Im saving the hookers for when I am older and cant pull the younger tail. So I sit there drinking, and the people I am with wondering if I would not prefer to spend some time with a ladyboy instead

3 of my boys arrived after that, and its mostly a golfing a trip across KL and Vietnam. With them around now, nightlife is more in line with what I am looking for.

These bars I mention are all concentrated in the same street though and very close together, so its in KL's "golden triangle" so to speak. There are a few other venue options there, but once I was done with the first two nights I did not bother going back. The restaurants are also mostly western, so if you are looking for local food, its not easy to find many options.

I went into Chinatown one night and that was not for me. Cheap and nasty with zero talent. We went to a few bars, but it ended up being an early night and I found it a shithole.

Bukit Bintang was a different story. Tons of restaurants and bars and some pretty decent nightlife. If you are going to go to KL, I would suggest you focus your efforts in this area. When I go back from now on this is where Ill spend most of my time. There are tons of small, nameless bars and restaurants but they are all pretty decent and they tend to pack out at night

Chicks wise its a really mixed bag. The local Malay women are Muslim, so the chances there very slim. You wont even see them out. There are a lot of Thai and Vietnamese women, but I have a strong suspicion that many are working girls. The Chinese Malay are a different story, but looks wise I found them the weakest of the women from SE Asia.

In 7 days there, I completely struck out. The first two days were a write off, and on the third I was in China Town which is a hole. So I had 4 days in Bukit Bintang, two of which I managed to spend a bit of time with a knockout Iranian chick, but I could not convert. She was not going to bang quickly and I simply ran out of time. The other two days I was too hammered, although did manage to get a drink thrown all over me when I asked two fat British slags how they managed to evade the whaling boats on their way in from Japan when they were trying to chat up one of my mates. Western women always stick out given the size of them, but next to these little asian women, they stick out like a sore thumb.

Women wise, based on what I have seen, your best options are tourists in KL, of which there are plenty. Locals, the Chinese Malay seem the most approachable and easy to get out, but thats not based on any success on my part. There is a large Indian, Arab and Persian contingent from what I can see, it seems like the Persians and Arabs are pretty much loaded in these parts.

All up, will always be a good city, but I think you need a lot of time here. Its also very expensive by Asian standards, and I found myself paying a lot for booze. At $7-$8 for a pint of beer, I felt like I was drinking at home.

If its pussy you are after, I would consider avoiding KL unless you had a fair chunk of time here to get a decent lay of the land.

Spend a bit of time in 2011 in KL and really liked it. Changkat Bukit Bintang is where it's at in KL. Little street filled with all the bars that you need. My favourite place wound up to be the Reggae Bar here (I think there is another one in Chinatown but I have never been there and can't say anything). Setup was quite favourable for me as downstairs it's very narrow. The bar is shortly after the entrance and in the middle of the room which leaves two narrow sideways next to it that people have to pass. Makes for easy opening if you camp down there. The balcony upstairs is also good. But I think all bars have these. A word of caution though, also here some freelancers might be around, like anywhere in Asia. At least I got the impression from some girls.

Loved your comment about the British chicks.

Good report HH. I too found liquor prices exorbitantly expensive. And I notice you mention nothing about Malaysians being attractive. I don't know what it is, but those women are some of the ugliest in the world.

They are really nothing to write home about at all. If not for the Chinese Malay, Viet and Thai women, it would be a desert I think. Problem is, I think a lot of the thai and viet women are working girls, which does not really leave much outside tourists and the small Persian contingent that is there.

Look to be fair 7 days is never enough, but based on what I saw, its not a great place if you are looking to chase women

Hear, hear. I went to KL two years ago and had pretty much the same experience. If I have to go again I would just concentrate tourists in Langkawi or the Perenthian islands.

I am familiar with KL, I would never considered it a great city.

The local Malays, not as prudish as you'd fathom after 7 days. The more modern ones you can view as similar to Indonesians in Jakarta, which means save yourself time and write off thinking you'll get SNL, and even a longer chase will be viewed by them as a way into something more serious.

Indians are out of the picture.

The Chinese malays are the best bet, as average as they are I find them still better looking than the Singaporese.

Persians and Arabs are loaded because they tend to be an expatriate group of investors.

I would recommend Indonesians first, with Thai's and Philippinos second. They aren't all working girls, they just tend to be people allowed into the country as exploited cheap labour as it is still even more than they'd earn back in their home countries. You may be familiar with how maids get treated in HK. It's not much different here.

Overall your recommendation is sound, don't go there for the women, it is particualarly moot as Thailand is immediately to its north.

You go there to set up non-customer service streams of your business, Malaysia tends to be somewhat accomodating for that.

Being away from home, they are less concerned about their anit-slut behaviour.

Alcohol, it's heavily taxed due to it being a muslim country, Langkawi however has an exemption on this tax.

Damn I am pretty disappointed by this report. I am going to KL at the end of the month just for a weekend trip and was hoping to get my Malaysian flag.

Have you read Naughty Nomad's report on the city? He had a much more positive experience. http://www.naughtynomad.com/2010/05/31/k...ity-guide/

Any idea if pipelining will yield me a flag in only 2 nights?

I dodged a bullet. I was originally planning Kuala Lumpur then Thailand. Ended up doing Taiwan then Thailand.

@Harry Hooligan- check out Taipei. Its in my opinion, the best city in China/Taiwan Area. Friendlier than Beijing, cheaper than Hong Kong (or so I heard), and less snotty than Shanghai (haven't been in a while). Taipei is called the NY of China.

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

Cannot but agree with Hooligan Harry. Was there for 3 days 3 years ago and stayed in the hostel in the very center of the town.

KL is a fucked up place,I did not like the town during daytime polluted, dirty, few parks, all concrete.. I witnessed a gang harassing probably fake monks for their alms collected, the Petronas tower are really nothing special.. in the nightlife I saw mainly working girls and other strange dudes went back early to the hostel ; I was really happy when I took my bus back to Singapore.

I was told Penang is better for the girls but was not able to go there.

I'm gonna take this chance to pimp my old KL game guide: http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-16517.html

When I lived in KL, almost all my success came from day gaming (described in the link above). Bukit Bintang is a treasure trove of malls that are filled, all day every day, with cute girls wandering around by themselves, just passing the time. With some finesse and determination, you can get them to give up their numbers and, eventually, a lot more.

I agree with those who say KL isn't for the dude who's only passing through and wants to bang. After more than a year living there, I knew some Malay (aka Bahasa Melayu) and a lot about the culture. That was critical for getting past the girls' anti-slut defenses, which are on hyperdrive as compared to western girls. If you are going for SNLs with locals, visit TimeoutKL.com for an idea of where the party's at.

And in defense of Malay (ie, not Indian or Chinese) chicks, some of them are damn fine underneath the tudung. Long/thick black hair, caramel skin, nice asses. Whew. Just the thought is making me wanna move back.

After reading his report, all I can say is that we must have very different taste in women, or maybe he just struck gold in the time he was there. The hottest women IMO were the Thai and Viet women, and the Persians who are there are tops for my tastes. The local Malay are not even on my radar, and I wonder if he was maybe not identifying the Thai and Viet women as locals perhaps, which is a possibility.

Pipelining may work, but in all honesty unless you run into a slut you are probably going to need more than a few days there. Language would not be a problem from what I could see. There are no shortages of foreigners and tourists there either, its KL after all.

I have been on short trips before for work, and to be honest in future it will stay as such. Ill fly in, do what I have to, and eject. This is not a hunting ground for me at all.

the main issue with malay girls is that they're terrified of the muslim police catching them in a hotel room with a foreigner. all in all, they're actually pretty horny. i would rather go to kota kinabalu for my malay fix, there are alot of half malay half chinese mixed girls there, and they're mostly christians there so no issues with muslim police.

you could also check out zouk or butter factory, girls from early 20s to early 30s.

Just a quick update.

Spending time in Bukit Bintang was more productive as I was able to avoid the freelancing mecca that is KL central. If you are going to stay in KL at all, stick to this part of the city. I would choose Singapore over this city in a heartbeat, and in future will be flying in from Singapore rather than staying in KL.

My initial impressions were validated again though. This is not a great city for pickup and you would need a lot of time here to make inroads. Tourists are always an option, but I may as well be chasing backpackers in Perth if thats what I was after.

Anyone headed out is advised to pipeline. The only reason I came right is because I hooked up with a chick I met on the last trip and lied through my teeth about returning for a few months. Maybe I just had a bit of a shitty run or did not click with the place, who knows.

Options are:

Tourists - Will be the easiest for ONS and SNL's.
Chinese Malay - Best looking of the locals, but thats not saying much.
Muslim Malay - Did not bother, rarely see them out
Indians - If it looks like a Bollywood princess, maybe. Most dont look like Bollywood princesses though
Persians - Hot but require a lot of work. Tend to be found in the upmarket clubs and bars and are almost always with guys
Vietnamese/Thai - Best looking of all the asian girls I saw there, but after being propositioned by a few across the last two trips now, Im convinced that most are working girls

This was exactly my experience as well. A cool city, but...

I cannot vouch for KL as a city to meet women.

The food, on the other hand, I would marry.
