Nothing wrong with scalpers. Its the free market at work. They provide a valuable service.

Scalping doesn't always run up the costs. I've paid less than face value for scalped tickets to stadium concerts before (No, they were not fake). Ticket traders can get burned about as easily as they can make a killing. especially at big venues like stadiums.

For people wanting to become scalpers. Consider specialising in something other than big concerts and sports events. High end theatre in a mid-size city may be a good bet. Much less competition. People attending are often rich, and are definitely not above paying for scalped tickets at the door. I've done this informally when I genuinely had a couple of extra tickets. Just stand outside a popular theatre and announce that you have x spare tickets. Prepare to be swamped by people who had turned up at the box office hoping for returns. If this is illegal in your jurisdiction be more discreet.

Same here. I once paid less than face value for what were almost the best possible seats to an opening day baseball game. I waited until about two minutes into the first inning, when the scalper was obviously nervous that he would end up eating the tickets, and therefore got a bargain.

I use to scalp back in college, had season tickets to redsox the year before they won the W.S, just gave those up last season. Used to have Heat when lebron first joined, couple of football, baseball and hockey. Gave up all due to teams hiking up the ticket prices. Teams now use flex pricing, prices are determined real time based on demand. I had a program that would check ticketmaster ever few minutes for a hot concerts. I made a shit load on hannah montana
