Gringo looking for best chances in Brazil (major city)

Qtal,
First off, great site, great forum--very unique and ahead of its time.

Anyway, I am really considering moving to Florianopolis because of its location and naturaleza (women included). But after reading the thread, I have noticed that its anything but a lock for women.

So, my question is, out of all of the major cities (defined 100,000 plus--some won't be "major" I know) in Brazil, where would a gringo have the best chances of hooking up?

The night life in Manaus is very good indeed. If you want easy, sexy girls, stick to the forro clubs. Other than that, Manaus is probably the city in the entire Brasil if not the entire Americas where it's the easiest to hook up with a girl anywhere, anytime. Just a smile and a "oi, tudo bem?" and in 80%, you're in. No kidding.

Cristobal,
How's your Portuguese skills? Have you been been to Brasil before?
From the top of my head, provided you speak some decent Portuguese, the best options would be:
Belo Horizonte
Goiania
Belem
Manaus
Floripa (to stand a chance, not only you must speak decent portuguese but be in top physical shape as Floripa is beach body central). I'd say even more than in Rio and that says it all.

Or you could just as well take a map of Brasil and pick any mid size city in the interior and you'll have a blast with the non pros. Again, Portuguese skills are required to have the time of your life.

Hope this helps.

How hot are the women in Manaus overall? From what I understand this city is getting close to the Amazon, are the women still pretty mixed like in Rio, or are they more native Indian looking? Also, this is probably irrelevant, but is there any particular reason why you'd hypothesize that the women are easier to hook up with in this city, compared to the rest of Brazil? Is English spoken much at all, or do you really need solid Portuguese? And finally, what's the best way to get there, could one catch a flight from Salvador or Rio?

Melvin,
Forro clubs are clubs that play only forro. Forro being a type of Brasilian music, which is very sensual, where both the guy and girl are very close to one another. Google it or look on youtube for some videos of how it's danced. But worry not, just watch the guys there and if you know the basics of Merengue, then you'd pick up forro steps rather quickly. Forro is a mix between merengue and lambada if you will to give you a rough idea of how it's danced. But do youtube it to get a visual example.

OGN,
You're right that in Manaus, being int he heart of the Amazon, there a lot of women of Indian decent but because of the centuries of miscigenation or mixing in the Brasilian culture, you'll find some amazingly stunning women there.Plus Manaus being the zona franca where it's free trade central of the region, both nationally and internationally in SA, it's filled with very hot women from all over Brasil working there. As to the women being easier and more approachable in Manaus, this is the unanimous comment from everyone I know who has been there, whether it be gringos or Brasileiros. They have a saying in Brasil about women in Manaus which goes like they have "fogo no cu" (they have fire in their ass or they're on fire, always horny) type of thing. In Manaus, it's not uncommon at all for the girl to approach the guy, everywhere. Manaus is very high on my lists of places to visit next time I'm in Brasil.

As to English, my guess that it could be spoken there, but I'd strongly suggest you or anyone intending on going there, to invest some time into learning as much Portuguese as you can since Manaus is not as touristy as say Rio/SP or even Floripa or Fortaleza where English would be more spoken. Manaus is in the middle of the jungle, so Portuguese would be a huge asset there. In Manaus, speaking Portuguese or not, can very well be the difference between an ok time to having the time of your life. But I guess this applies to pretty much everywhere in Brasil.

You can easily get to Manaus by air from any major city in Brasil. From the US, I believe there's even a direct flight from Atalanta or Miami to Manaus but don't quote me on that. Do your own diligence on that. You could also go to Manaus from Belem by boat which is a very scenic cruise which would take about a week or so. You could either do it the local way on an hamock on the top deck of a boat going to Manaus from Belem or you could get a private cabin (which I highly recommend if for no other reason than for the fact that you'll have your own "clean" toilet", privacy and above all, a safe place to leave your stuff and some quite to sleep at night. Things that you wouldn't get if you were to sleep among the locals on the upper deck on an hamock.

Hope this helps.

Yo V. P. thanks for the dope data sheet, that was the kind of low down I was hoping for. I just did Brazil this past winter (just Rio, Ilha Grande, Paraty), I probably won't go back for a while, but when I do I think Manaus, will have to be included into my itinerary!

In Amazon zone it rains (heavily) every single day. People attends meetings "before" or "after the rain".
I can add Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais). Good trip, very historical, beautiful girls and the food... delicious!

Deixa que essa fase é passageira, amanhã será melhor você vai ver a cidade inteira seu samba saber de cor!
