The recent (and Indian) novel, "White Tiger", which I read before I found this forum, features a literary version of the IRT: a dirt-poor youngster who raises himself up slowly in Indian society through many methods of wheeling and dealing. At one point on his way up the social ladder, he has saved up enough money for a prostitute and pays extra for a Western women, specifically requesting a "blonde"; when it turns out to be a dark-haired Ukrainiana, who only has a bad bleach job, he is horribly disappointed, and demands a real blonde. The pimp, with some contempt says, for that you must pay double, and of course the main character can't afford it, so he settles in and has to describe how he tries to ignore the dark roots in front of him . . .
