I would say get the ipad mini, would be great for reading and loads of other stuff you can do on it.

The original type kindles with e-ink are great for reading, I have played with a kindle fire and they are frustrating to use. I would say spend the extra $130 dollars and get the ipad mini.

I feel qualified to comment on this. Last Christmas my girlfriend got me a Kindle Fire. Also last Christmas, my other girlfriend got me an iPad 2. Those were some good times. [Image: dancingman.gif]

Get the iPad. Trust me. Although both are outdated, but I used the iPad way more than the Kindle. It was just a better experience.

Hm, well I don't have any experience with the iPad Mini yet, but if it were between the 2 and the Mini I'd go with the Mini. New screen resolution, faster processor, all that good stuff, etc., etc.

Inaccurate regarding specs. Full size iPad is latest greatest.
Mini has old processor and lower resolution.

Decide between 10 or 8 inches in your hand.

Nexus 7/10 is cool stuff too

iPad mini is a POS in my opinion; old processor, low ram, low res display and quite expensive at $329. It's basically just a smaller version of iPad 2. I just got Nexus 7 the other day and I really like it. It dropped in price on Monday and it's now $199 for the 16GB version. My GF has an iPad 3 and it is a very good tablet also, but at $499 the Nexus 7 is just way better deal. Performance-wise they feel about the same and benchmark tests actually give an edge to the Nexus. iPad 3 has obviously a much bigger and better screen, but it's also 2.5 times more expensive. As for OS, I like the newest Android 4.1 JellyBean better than the iOS 6, but I have to admit there are some really good apps for iOS that simply don't exist on Android.
As for original question - Kindle Fire VS iPad 2 - both are obsolete today, unless you can get it very very cheap don't get it. If you want a 7 incher go with Nexus 7, if you want a fullsize tablet wait for the new Nexus 10, that thing is going to be a beast and probably beats the new iPad on all fronts and starts at $399. If you really want iPad then go with the newest iPad 4, pretty much identical to iPad3, but twice the performance, starts at $499.
Also the new Kindle Fire HD and HD+ and the new Nook HD and HD+ are worth looking into, good specs for a good price, but both have a very limited custom version of Android which is a big deterrent to me.

I would not go for the kindle but either buy a full iPad or risk a really cheap generic tablet in the $100 range. My friends use them and they are fairly decent and no big loss if ever damaged or lost...of course you do not get the status which an iPad confers to its user in public but then some people do not care about that (most women, however, would not want to be caught dead with a cheap tablet, what would the other herd heifers think of them... .)

I would second the nexus 7. Add a usb keyboard case and you have a ~1 pound laptop. Better than the kindle fire HD, better than the ipad mini in screen/processor specs, $120 cheaper.

iPad 4 was announced with the iPad mini. iPad mini is like a mini version of the iPad 2.

Get the new ipad mini 329, its cute, will work great and may get you a bit of attention. You can use it as a prop to show to women.

Yeah women don't fuck around with these things, they wouldn't be caught dead trying to scrimp a few hundred dollars on a tablet that they use everyday.

Hell they blow that on a dress they will wear once.

Let us know what you do go for and how you find it.
