Los Angeles

I'm going to Los Angeles for a weekend in a few weeks. I'll be there for three days then I'm going to meet some folks in Palm Springs and chill there for 3 days.

I see another thread but my questions are a bit more specific.

Can you folks help me out?

My first question is about smoking. What are the rules?

Aloha!

Kona,

"Can you folks help me out?"

I have been spending tons of time in Beverly Hills as of late. What do you need to know?

"My first question is about smoking. What are the rules?"

Weed or cigarettes?

Cigarettes, but if there is are some LA specific weed tips I should probably get those, too.

Are there designated areas outside bars/restaurants? Is there a distance rule from the entrance? Do Exotic Dancers utilize the same smoking areas as the patrons?

Are there any bars that openly defy the ban?

Are the laws in Palm Springs the same as LA?

Aloha!

Yeah, you can smoke outside the bars on the street or if there is a patio.

Many times if food is being served, people can get jumpy when you are smoking.

Rooftop bars, pool bars etc are your best bet.

As far as Exotics, depends on the gentleman's club. Generally speaking, I am not to huge a fan of gentleman's clubs in LA.

Some bars may defy ban, but its real case by case. Obviously, if you see someone light up, follow suit.

Palm Springs is generally more strict than LA.

Despite all the Sinatra history of Palm Springs, I have never really been a fan of the place.

I hope this helps.

I see only certain ones serve alcohol. That's bullshit. G, Mahalo for the smoking info, can you or anyone else point me in the direction of a club with a healthy lineup of Asian dancers?

Also, I saw a TV show once about Chatsworth, where they make all of the porn. Is it worth it to cruise the happy hours out there? I want the full LA experience and I think it will be easier to swoop a porn actress as opposed to a regular one.

The 1:30 bar closing time is real. So I take it I need to get out there early. I'm sure the Asian dancers will be able to help me out with under the table after hours spots. Do these places exist? Are they popular?

Any suggestions would be helpful!

It´s too bad you´re heading to LA when I won´t be there, but in regards to late night options, I think there are some places around Korea Town that don´t really follow the rules (G as in Gangsta).

The best way to swoop around there is to get yourself into some house parties... particularly in the hollywood hills. Otherwise, hit up some spots around the Sunset Strip around 10:30 and find yourself some mamacitas and take them over to Mels or something after things closedown for a nightcap and take them back to your place and give them the Hawaiian treatment.

It´s a cool town, LA. Try hitting up couchsurfing and see if anyone cool´s around to show you some hot spots.

Kona,

I think you will be happy, there always seems to be a fair amount of Asian girls in LA. Lots in SF and OC also. Filipinas and half white half Filipinas in Diego.

You might want to check myhouse, playhouse, Teddys, Thompson Hotel, Chateau Marmont, and SLS hotel as well.

The issue with LA is sh*t is spread out.

Kerouac is right, lock into Hollywood hills gigs. My finest moments in LA have been in those.

Side note:

You do need to get started early in LA. And the night is over before you know it.

Which means you need to sometimes lock in to some girls early. (Hence some of the reasons I dislike West Coast nightlife.)

LA generally speaking is not a 15 round fight. Hell, its not even a 12 round fight.

More like a preliminary 10 rounder.

I think Speakeasy lives in LA, I am sure he can weigh in heavy for you.

Another side note:

The late night stuff in LA is usually pretty drug fueled.

No, do NOT go to Chatsworth. Chatsworth is in a far flung suburb, pretty much a bedroom community and there's not a damn thing to do there. I know, I used to work in Chatsworth and for 10 years lived 5 minutes from there. No clubs, no bars, nothing but apartments and houses really and some office/warehouse buildings. The porn industry is centered around there, but that doesn't mean there's pornstars walking all over the place.

As for Asian dancers, I'm not quite sure where to point you specifically, but there are these shady, perhaps semi-legal venues in downtown L.A., Chinatown and Koreatown I've heard about where there are Asian dancers that guys pay and the women will spend time with them, and I guess if they like you they'll come home with you...if that's your thing. You'll have to search on the internet to find out about these places because it's not my scene. I'm just going off what others have told me.

For picking up normal Asian women, Try club Kress on Hollywood Blvd. The rooftop bar there on certain nights is all Asian. I think it was a thursday when I went and nothing but cute Asian chics. Then some other nights it'll be a more mixed crowd. The San Gabriel valley, about half an hour east of downtown is Asian central so any clubs out there are going to be Asian mostly. I don't kick it out there so can't give you any specifics. In downtown L.A. in Chinatown, there's a club called the Firecracker. It's been around for years. Mostly hiphop and lots of Asian chics on every other friday night. Check their calendar: http://www.grandstarjazzclub.com/

Bars close at 2, last call is at 1:30. Yeah, get there early.

"Try club Kress on Hollywood Blvd"

That is probably a good tip.

The owner is from san diego and I know his clubs in diego have lots of asian girls too.

Mahalo for all of the excellent info.

I leave next Thursday, and I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Hey Speakeasy, those semi-legal establishments you mentioned are most likely Korean hostess bars. FYI, those are fantastic places to pick-up good looking dirty Asian chicks. They're great for landing one-nighters once you know how their system works. You should check those out.

If you'd like, I'd be happy to explain that system.

There you go, that's the name I was forgetting. Hostess bars.

Sure, explain away. Don't know when I'll be in one, but the information may be good if I ever find myself there.

Hey Kona, your best bets for an easy lay in L.A. is going to be around the Hollywood and Highland scene(the intersection of where these streets meet, there are lots of clubs all around there, take your pick), and the Hermosa Beach Pier scene. The latter is mostly white chics though, there should be some Asians though. I'd also give an honorable mention to the Main Street scene in Santa Monica. For more sophisticated hotties, check out the Viceroy hotel bar in Santa Monica. Call first or check the website to see what events are going on that night. It has a Miami type feel with a pool/cabana lounge outside as well as an indoor bar. The Standard downtown is a must do for the rooftop bar, dress to impress and preferably have some eye candy on your arm to ensure entrance. Same for the Skybar on Sunset. I went to Le Deux in Hollywood not long ago, pretty mixed crowd overall but there were shitloads of hot Filipinas that night for some reason. Top notch girls all around though. Expect bitch shields to be high with local girls. Tourist chics are a lot friendlier. I haven't been in a while, but one of my old fav spots is the Moonshadows Blue Lounge in Malibu, the outdoor bar is right there overlooking the ocean equipped with beds under the stars and all. Pretty tight spot, but more a place to take a girl than a place to meet one.

Stay away from the San Fernando Valley(in which Chatsworth is located) which is on the other side of the Hollywood Hills. I live in the valley. There's not one damn reason for a tourist to come up here unless you're going to a Jay Leno taping or Universal Studios. It's just a place to live, not to visit.

"Viceroy hotel bar in Santa Monica"

I have crushed that place before and stayed there a few times. Dope spot, but could be hit or miss I bet. I went there when it was pretty new.

Speakeasy makes some good points, I think your Hawaii style will play well at the beaches, since California beach towns jock Hawaii.

See, now we got you going all over LA.

Damn right you do. Mahalo. I'm going to print this and take it with me.

As far as beaches go, I take it rental boards are available all over the place?

And ,not to take to much time away from you folks, as far as surfable breaks, where's the beach with the most girls?

Aloha!

Sorry to bust your bubble but the beaches won't be too crowded this time of year. It's too chilly in March for bikinis. Sometimes we get an occasional weekend during the winter where it hits 80 at the beach and everyone shows up at once, but don't count on it. However, pack some board shorts just in case.

If we have warm weather, best bet for girls would be Huntington Beach in Orange County, Manhattan, Redondo and Hermosa Beach in L.A. County and if you want to go a bit further up the coast toward Ventura County(cleaner beaches), Zuma beach(mainly in summer though). Should be plenty of girls laying on the sand at Santa Monica beach and hanging around the pier when the weather is good, but I wouldn't go in the water there, it has a reputation for being more polluted, esp in winter when the rain washes L.A.'s filth into the bay. Stay away from the water at Will Rogers beach, highest bacterial count in L.A. Though chilling on the sand is fine.

If you got some time on your hands and a car rental, may want to consider taking a day trip to Santa Barbara. Lots of UCSB poon walking around if you don't mind younger girls. Good beaches. Lovely town all around and a nice break from L.A.'s see-and-be-seen vibe. The Asian and white college girls wet their panties over Jack Johnson, so if you're from Hawaii, a surfer and maybe even have the bohemian surfer look, you could probably clean house.

Ha! For some reason I just assume everywhere in the world is warm. It's gotten me into clothing related trouble. Thanks for making me check the weather.

And I appreciate the dirty/clean water info. A few years ago in CA i swam and later found out the beach was where they spread John C. Holmes ashes. I wanted to vomit.

Jack Johnson is popular on the mainland????

I don't know one chic that doesn't like him. Not one. They get all dreamy eyed because he's from Hawaii, and surfs and plays guitar. Only Australian surfers get more ass handed to them without having to work for it.

All over southern CA. More with the beach town girls, the club girls probably wont know who he is.

Yeah, I would say your best bets are the beach breaks.

If you really want to surf though, go norte baja brother. My favorite by far.

Barrels and tacos.

Kona, you have never surfed in CA before?

So he ripped off my game???

Jack Johnson is a really good guy. I knew he was big in Japan, because of the Hawaii tourism connection. He's puts on The Kokua Festival every year and is a major supporter of The Defend Oahu Coalition. He also went to my high school and plays music at my happy hour spot in Haleiwa at least once or twice a month. He's not afraid of big waves and never lets his celebrity status get in the way of taking them. He's cool with the pecking order.

The guy Jason Mraz stole his style, going so far as to make This Video on The North Shore and use my sister in it. I figured that guy got all the mainland notoriety, and money. Now that I read about Jack Johnson on the mainland, I bet he just gives the bulk of his money away.

Quote:Quote:

No, and I was just talking about that with some guys that were at The Mavericks a few weeks ago. My friends didn't mention the weather, but I bet they froze, now that I read.

The furthest north I've ever surfed is Esenada. The only total vacation trip I've ever taken to CA was when I was 18-19, but I discovered Tijuana. The rest of the times I've been out there I really didn't have time to hang out.

Even though I'll only be there for a few days, I bet I'll have a good time.

Never heard of that Mraz dude. The music sounds pretty cheesy to me, but then I don't like Jack Johnson's music either.

Kona,

Here is a hot tip for you: Drai's at W Hollywood to Open On Sunday Night for The Oscars

http://www.hotelchatter.com/story/2010/3...The_Oscars

W Hotel's suck in my opinion, but since this place is brand new, it is bound to have girls.

And a tricky velvet rope.

The W in Honolulu was bought up and is now called The Lotus. It's the same place, rooms are just 1/3 what they used to be.

Mahalo brothers again for all of the excellent LA info.
