Amazing story. God bless him. It's weird how manhood pretty much had its last hurrah in the Second World War. In America it may have lasted through that war's afterglow in Korea but was dead by circa 1970. It makes you wonder if Britain really was on the victorious side in that conflict. I watch the 2012 Olympic ceremonies and wonder.

There's no way I could exhibit the stoicism and fortitude that a man like this, carrying 6 ounces of shrapnel for a lifetime, showed. I'm sure the guys who have served on here could say otherwise.
