I have this habit where I can spend hours on Wikipedia by searching for one thing and then out of curiosity and interest, opening a link to another topic and before I know it I am reading about something completely different to what I started. I just came across the sad and horrifying story of David Reimer and did a search on this forum to see if it had been discussed before.

Reading about his nightmare of a life gave me a chill. Going through what he did as a baby through no fault and choice of his own and living with the consequences was heart breaking to read. His life was a living hell and nobody can truly understand the merciless horrors that he had to endure. Not only was his life destroyed but also that of his brothers life. In spite of everything that was forced upon him, nature prevailed and he valiantly fought back, reclaiming his birthright. However there is only so much a man can endure and after 38 years of torture and hell, I feel glad that he no longer has to suffer and that he is in a better place. Here's to David Reimer - who was born, lived and died as a brave man.

Here's to David Reimer, to 2Wycked for writing the original post, and to Vamanos Pest for bumping it. I had never read The Last Psychiatrist, and his essays are a final piece in a long puzzle I've been putting together.

This is certainly a case against circumcision. It also makes the case against social constructs, the blank slate, and the nurture side of nature v. nurture. It is also one of the most horrific stories out there and led to this man committing suicide. Every time I hear about young children identifying as gay or transgender and the parents jump on the bandwagon to raise their child that way (or worse, they force them into that direction), it makes me sick to my stomach. It is beyond unethical.

Given this recent post by Wutang, I decided to give this a thread a bump.

It is very important to understand the nexus between John Money and Judith Butler. Money was highly influential most academic circles back then and Butler is still an incredibly revered intellectual on the feminist left. Both were instrumental in helping laying the groundwork for modern concepts of gender and helping further socialize (outsource to the state, in other words) traditional functions of the family.
