Roobios (Redbush) tea

Anyone else checking for this?

Fits in nicely with tha ACV / Green tea kind of lifestyle. It's been a regular part of my routine for over 5 years.

Delicate taste, caffeine free and many reported health benefits (see link).

This is great to alternate with cups of green tea / coffee in the daytime or replace the caffeine drinks on the evening. Can be taken with or without milk (nicer without).

Also pretty nice iced: boil up 3 or 4 teabags in the kettle then jug it whilst wtill warm with a little honey and lemon to taste. Not a bad Vodka mixer in a pinch as well.

I've been drinking Rooibos on-and-off for about 10 years now, and it's my favorite pre-sleep drink.

No Caffeine
Nice taste
and supposedly helps you sleep

It's nice iced or hot.

No, but I drink 1-3 liters of tea in a day. I believe that most tea contains L-Theanine

Akin to the racetam family - theanine has also demonstrated moderate affinity with AMPA receptors and has been shown to increase the monoamine neurotransmitter dopamine. In clinical studies theanine has demonstrated efficacy in promoting alpha-wave brain patterns - associated with meditation, increased concentration and creativity

Quote:Quote:

L-theanine appears to antagonize the stimulatory effects of caffeine by decreasing seratonin levels that have been artifically elevated by caffeine

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

Have been drinking loads of the stuff for decades now. It's supposed to have a gazilion anti-oxidants per cup, but I take health claims with a pinch of salt since it's typically some Rooibos industry group putting out the claims. But who knows. People tell me I look more than 10 years younger than my chronological age (but of course that may be some sort of flattery), so maybe it does contain loads of antioxidants. For me it tastes much better than green tea.

For those interested "Rooibos" means, of course, Red Bush (no, not that kind...found on a redhead). But the plant itself isn't red. The stalks the tea is made from turn reddish after being fermented. The plant itself only grows in a fairly small geographical area within a few 100 km's radius from Cape Town and I don't think it's easy, or even possible, to grow it much outside that area since the native plants in that area are hyper-specialized (due to the soil being very low in the macro NPK nutrients I'm told). So if it ever becomes really popular in Western markets go long Rooibos futures.

It's good stuff.

Another type of red tea I like is hibiscus tea, karkadé style like in Egypt with a bit of sugar and lime juice.
