I just left Montreal for the 2nd time this summer, so I'm gonna give some live from the trenches updates on venues and nightlife from what I experienced. Hencredible dropped a gem with his datasheet, but as the nightlife in all major cities does, it evolves and changes over time. We'll call this a datasheet update. I thought about connecting it to his, but didn't want it to be buried in 100+ replies so it's hard to find later.
I tend to do mostly higher end venues, so this is biased in that direction slightly for sure. For instance I didn't spend much time on Crescent Street, instead opting more for St. Laurent, Old Port & downtown spots.
Luckily on my last trip I bagged a local socialite, so through her I made some good connections with promoters and bartenders to know where the hotspots are now.
Daygame:
I didn't do a whole lot on either trip as I was mostly out so late at night that I was pretty useless most of the time during the day. One thing I noticed, which is contrary to what others have said, I don't notice a huge number of really hot girls out and about on the streets in the day. The talent at night is high without a doubt, but I haven't seen huge amounts in the day on either trip. Maybe its because most of them go out so late at night as I do, so they don't emerge 'till the evening again? Seems plausible to me.
On a Saturday there were tons of people on St. Catherine street, shopping and doing their thing, but talent wise there wasn't a whole lot.
Nightlife:
Cavalli- I absolutely love this place and have done very well there. SUPER hot bartenders who can be had from what I have seen/experienced. VERY upscale lounge atmosphere. Thursday night is their night and it turns into a borderline club atmosphere. Just enough energy, but not completely over the top. Thursday nights, this place will get packed for sure. Not the same on Friday or Saturday but still decent and you can find random hot girls often sitting at the bar. Worth a peek for sure and a great place to pop in at 8-9, have a couple drinks at the bar, see who's there, and if nothing else just chop it up with hot waitresses to get warmed up for later.
This Thursday in September, the place was not as good as I found it earlier in the summer. More dudes than before (lots of wannabe ballers), but still a lot of talent to be found. This place is still worth hitting, but I suspect that by next summer this place MAY be kinda wack and lose its luster.
Globe- Friday nights is the best night here. Its one of two places to be on a Friday if you want to be at the hottest spots in town. Its a supper club on St. Laurant which has an unbelievable seafood medley dish if you like seafood. Pricey though at like $75, but amazing nonetheless. Between 11-12 it will be packed and the tables moved out so people can dance. Always chicks around the bar area so you can just post up there and let it come to you. About a 50/50 ratio the two Friday nights I have hit it.
Bueno Notte- This is another supper club right across the street from Globe on St. Laurant. This place has been a staple of Montreal nightlife for 20 years, and still doesnt dissapoint. Any given Friday or Saturday night, this place will be crawling with tons of hot girls. They run a pretty tight door which is what keeps the ratios good. Get there early or go for dinner (9PM reser. is ideal) if you don't have any hookups. Hooked up with a hot Indian girl (from BC I think), but at the end of the night got cock blocked by her friends who weren't getting any. Shit happens.
Rosalies- Wednesday nights is "industry night" in Montreal, and this is where all the hot working talent goes. The place will go off on this night. Its an Italian restaurant with great pizza downstairs, smoking hot waitresses, and then around 11 or midnight the upstairs club starts going. It was supposed to be good on a Saturday night, but I found it to be OK only. Some hot girls, but didn't get totally packed at any point. Is supposedly usually much better and packed on a Saturday, but I didn't see it the one Saturday night I spent there.
New Gas City: This place is brand new and is supposed to be VERY good. Its not in any of the standard areas to go out, as its on Ottawa Street but still not far from everything else. Its apparently two stories, with a full club upstairs and a downstairs which is more of a lounge feel. The only nights they are open now is Thursdays for cocktail hour which goes into the night and should be packed, and on Saturday night when they have DJs. Saturday nights its $35 to get in at the door but if you go on their website its only $15. If you go with a crew also, for a $500 minimum it gets you 4 people entrance for free and then you can get bottle service. Pretty reasonably priced at $200/bottle (which includes taxes) for premium vodka. So for the $500 you can basically get 4 people in and two bottles. Not a bad deal.
Cocktail Hour (5-7PM Thursday and Fridays primarily): This is a huge time to go out for people in Montreal, and should definitely be taken advantage of.
Hotel Negrill rooftop terrase: If you have good weather, then this is a great rooftop terrase in Old Port to be at. Will be packed. Good place to start the night for sure. Has some communal tables as well around the bar which lets the conversation flow pretty freely for you. Wasn't a ton of chicks when I went, but I befriended the bartender (who came out and winged me later in the night) and he said that ordinarily there are quite a few. Weather wasn't the best when I was there, so that most likely had an effect.
Suite 701: I didn't go there, but it was recommended by a hot local chick who knows the deal in town.
W Hotel, Plateau bar: Same as Suite 701. Didn't go, but it was recommended as being good.
Santos: Cool bar in Old Port. Popped in here on Friday night around 7:30PM and it was pretty packed and I liked the potential of it as it had a good bar area, lively energy, but was pretty much a cock fest. I'm guessing its not always this way but nevertheless it wasn't worth me staying at that time. I'll definitely check this place next time I'm in town though.
Terrasses Bonsecours- This place has a great patio at the end of Old Port almost all the way down by the water. They have some live music, lively atmosphere and lots of hot girls when I hit it on a Thursday in early summer. People mingling around but also sitting at tables, so where you set up can make a big difference. I was there with company unfortunately I couldn't really game with but of course everything about it was noted. I could see this place going OFF in peak summer months. They also have an upstairs which I didn't go up to but appears to be more of a club later. This place DEFINITELY merits some attention on another trip as I think it really could be a bit of a gem.
Dining:
Ferreira Cafe- On Peele in downtown. This place is GREAT. One of, if not the best, restaurant in Montreal. Portugese dining, mostly seafood, is the name of the game here, and its fantastic. The Black Cod is ridiculously good. Not that pricey either for what you get. They have a post 10PM menu also where for $24 you get an app, entree and I think desert also. Great deal. Good bar where you can sit and chat up the hot bartenders.
Jardin Nelson- This place is down in Old Port and has an unbelievable courtyard patio with large trees providing shade and live Jazz just about every night and all day Saturday and Sunday. Crepes is the name of the game here and not just breakfast style. Seems weird, but they are VERY good. Dont go here looking to meet chicks, but great place to take chicks too without a doubt.
Queue de Cheval: One of the best restaurants in Montreal and pretty widely acclaimed to be the best steakhouse. Prepare to spend some coin here, but its worth it. Next to rosalies. Also has a club later called 1234 which is apparently VERY young according to the bartender but I didn't wait to find out. The bartender is a Cuban cat named Pedro, who sells Cuban cigars cheap out of there that he imports directly. If you like cigars, talk to him. Cool dude.
Other:
Mt. Royal- Beautiful park on the mountain with lots of stairs and running paths to get your training in. You'll see some hot girls as well also working out. I didn't go on a Sunday when everyone is out playing the tam tam's, but still a nice place to go too.
Old Port art galleries- The art galleries down in Old Port I found to be pretty sick. Some really cool art that actually had me pretty damn close to dropping some coin on some stuff. Some hot chicks down and around this area doing the same thing so presents some further opportunities for gaming while doing something else rather than straight "hunting".
St. Catherine Street- This is the main shopping street and almost always has tons of people on it. Everything from Adidas to Harry Rosen can be found here.
Underground City- Montreal has nearly 20 miles of underground city that is all interconnected and has LITERALLY everything you can imagine down there. This is where much of the city goes in winter and when its extremely hot. Definitely interesting and worth checking out as you have probably never seen anything like it. Shopping, dining, drinking, movie theaters, are all down there.
That's my overall breakdown of a great city which more than holds its own against other great cities in the world that I have experienced. I'm not claiming to be a Montreal expert and I'm sure there is plenty of stuff I missed but nevertheless this should be useful.
French I would say is a bonus, but not really necessary to thrive here. This city will be on my travel agenda again next summer and further updates will come at that time. Enjoy!!
