Does posture make the man, or does man make the posture?

Does posture make the man, or does man make the posture?

I see a lot of noise on red pill sites about posture and how it relates to confidence, the image of yourself that you project to women (and other men, for that matter), what it means about your self image and your level of fitness, etc...

Here are some things I've been pondering on the topic, please share your thoughts if you would:

Will being more confident in myself subconsciously lead to differences in how I carry myself physically, or, will making a conscious effort to adopt a more allegedly confident posture subconsciously lead to an increased sense of self-confidence? Both, neither?

Do women necessarily find stereotypically confident posture extraordinarily attractive? From time to time I notice guys who seem to break all "the rules" of confident posture, including looking down at the ground a lot, being slouchy, rounded shoulders, who aren't at all lacking in their success with women. In the right circumstances can certain supposedly bad posture traits come off in a positive light, appearing cool, easygoing, comfortable, aloof, perhaps even mysterious? Is this highly dependent on other factors such as the style of clothes you wear, the game you try to run, and the girls you apply it to?

For reference, I'm a skinny ass ectomorph. I probably have at least a mild case of computer posture, but I follow a decent whole-body strength lifting routine when I can, and I work a job that requires moving around heavy equipment without struggle. I have no history of back pain or injury.
Though it's reassuring and humbling to see how much progress I've made since I started down the red pill path, I can tell that outward projections of self-doubt and lacking confidence are my biggest obstacles at the moment... Would the mental energy involved in trying to alter how I walk and stand be more wisely invested in some other means of self-improvement?

Body language shapes who you are. "Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how “power posing” -- standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident -- can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success."

Ok, it's a TED talk by a woman (who gets tearful at one point), but the results of her study are interesting. I'm trying the power pose myself for 2 minutes each day and it does have a positive affect on how I feel.

A lot of your posture is based on lifestyle and body type. I had to work with a personal trainer to get mine in shape. Just being confident won't automatically improve your posture.

I don't think you can separate the two. Posture and confidence seem to feed into each other, so that better posture will make you feel more confident and more confidence will make you "stand tall".

Working on posture is a good idea for all of us cubicle monkeys. Stand up straight and try to suck in your stomach. You have muscles behind your abs that contribute a lot to posture. You work those out by sucking your stomach in. You should also do stretches for your lower back, quads, and glutes. Foam rolling is another good tool for improving posture and flexibility.

I've got the dick so I make the rules.

Back in the 80's self help guru Tony Robbins extensively talked about body language and getting into "peak state" saying that one always led to the other. Just recently I've been trying to get back to the basics of inner game and have been focusing (obsessing?) on my posture. Search "codeofthenatural" on youtube. He has a ton of great videos demonstrating stretching exercises that directly tie to body language and attracting women. I do the doorway exercise daily (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDy3k_uM_t0) and it really helps with correcting my hunched shoulders and forward head posture from working on a computer all day.

I'm a skinny fuck as well - 150 lb 6' 1" (I was 120 7 months ago, I'm working on it) and power poses fucking rock

- legs open arms out
- use the Alexander technique for sitting up straight correctly
- LEAN BACK ( you guys all know the importance of this in terms of game, but in general all men lean in, you feel no powerful leaning back)
- take up as much space as possible.

It feels great. I felt wierd the first couple times since I wasn't used to being open with my body (still not comfortable with it but lifting heavy shit helps) but the power poses feel...powerful.

It definitely makes a difference to women, bloke I know is a good looking bloke with lots of confidence but he walks around head down, shoulders rounded, feet pointed inwards shuffling like. I asked a girl what I thought of him she said she thought he was good looking but didn't fancy him because of how he walked.

I will sometimes fancy a girl mainly due to the way she walks.

For me my posture improved when I became more confident in my body/style etc so that came first.

People will perceive a person standing more up straight as a confident person.

So even if you are not confident, but stand up straight, you'll be seen and treated as a confident person.

This creates confidence, which then makes it easier to stand up straight.

Fake it till you become it. (As we know confidence breeds confidence.)

Standing up straight is the first step in becoming a more confident person overall.

Dont fall for that fuck social conditioning people will perceive me based on how i perceive myself bullshit.
Sometimes (most of the times) it doesnt work that way and you just come off as an awkward guy, and people get this vibe that there is something off with you.

Good looking guy with good body = there is just something about him i dont know what, he is like really confident.
Not so good looking guy walking around with invisible lat syndrome= eww, creepy, tryhard.

Get a good body and your posture/peoples perception of you, issues will take care of themselves there is no need to over think this.

Also do overhead squats lot of them.
