Apartment with PERFECT logistics but landlord lives downstairs

Apartment is 2 blocks from the beach and within a 5 block radius there are 3 clubs and 3-4 bars. Problem is the landlord lives downstairs and made a number of comments about the noise level coming through the floor, heavy walking etc.

I hate to give it up but I don't want to be walking on egg shells whenever I bring company over.

Seem like the right decision?

IMO get rid of the Apt or ask e-mech how to be a Dick to your landlord [Image: smile.gif]

True, it's unfortunate because it would be a good setup.

Just talk to him first.

"Listen I'm a young guy and I like to have women over. Sometimes it gets a little noisy." Wink Wink
If he's a normal guy and not a total douche he'll understand and cut you some slack.

If not then tell him you're gonna do it anyway and if he doesn't like it he can break the lease and let
you leave. Tough shit.

Heavy carpeting. Or make your guests shed their shoes Japanese style upon entering. Or heed El Mech's sure to be diabolical advice.

Try putting a mat at the foot of the stairs, and take your shoes off there. Tell the girl to take her heels off before she gets on the stairs, citing your roommate's desire for quiet. Escalation and a solution.

And just don't make so much noise. Don't play loud music and talk even louder over it.

I had worse happen to me, once my landlord told me she didn't want me to have sex in my room, she said she didn't want me to bring girls there.

Fuck that. You pay rent. You should be able to march a parade of clowns waving dildos through there if you wanted [Image: lol.gif]

Some landlords like to be too controlling you need to be able to read that before you rent. Walking on eggshells where you live and pay rent sucks. I have a condo down the road and the ass. and neighbors were giving me a hard time so I told them I'm going to rent the place (free) to the worst ghetto family I can find if they don't shut the fuck up. Basically you have to out alpha your landlord and tell him what's up if he evicts you so be it. If you're on top of him flood his ass by creating a bathroom "accident"

This is only going to get worse. Once someone complains about noise one time, every little noise you make is going to get scrutinized. This is only exacerbated by the fact the guy has actual authority over you. It's a bad sign that he's already getting into the petty details, like how you walk. If it were a regular person--like the Indian Troll who used to complain about my noise--you can tell him to fuck off. But, this guy is the boss. Sure, there are cases where you can negotiate with the management, but every one of those that I've heard of always involves making some concession that you needn't be making when you're paying good money to live in a place.

Never live below, above, or near the landlord. Tell the guy you can't live there under these conditions; that you've never had people complain about how you walk and that you have a normal lifestyle that you can't live in peace under constant surveillance. Get out of there. I'm sure that's not the only apartment in the whole neighborhood.

Great thread! Thanks for sharing Ive learned a lot just reading the feedback.

Start looking for a new appt and negotiate with them [just in case]. By many state laws they cannot legally evict you for at least a month or so, so that gives you time to negotiate the best rent with several different landlords. In the meantime follow El Mech's advice and confront the landlord with an alpha attitude. You dont want to live under these circumstances and you will force him to end the contract or sublease at half price to the most ghetto people you can find. And the best part, if you are evicted you can stay that last month (or 2) for free. Look into alibi services like alibinetwork to get references from past landlords saying how great a tenant you are to use when negotiating with other landlords.

I don't know you or your landlord, but I think you guys are over-reacting a little (and kind of being dicks). Make a good faith attempt to be quiet, continue fucking girls, and then see what happens.

My landlord/roommate made some pretty stringent conditions, but has been pretty chill on a day to day basis.

I had a similar experience to hairyballs. Had an old crotchety lady tell me I couldn't fuck a girl in her place more than once a month. Gleaned that from an inquiry, so I never rented from her. Women past 40, if they aren't getting ass, they don't want anyone in a 20 mile radius getting any either.

So you're two different guys here? Am I the only one without a second user name?

Hmmm.....I need one. What should I call myself?

Basil, they can't do that it's total bullshit. You are paying them. You are contributing to their income. Do you know what a pain in the ass it is to find good renters and to evict the bad ones? Unless you are renting a room in someones home they can't tell you anything and if they call the cops what are they going to do? All the laws protect the renters. Can your landlord tell a court you walk loudly or bang girls? No the judge would laugh him out of court. Fuck that guy. He's got nothing.

Not too important but I wanted to clear up that I was looking at the apt and not yet renting it. I'm probably going to pass on it but I'll email the landlord with my concerns. Also the entrance is on the front patio so he would most likely see me coming and going a lot. Too much "eye in the sky" type shit for me.

Thanks for all the input though.

Yeah, but it sucks living with people you hate. I lived with two dudes who I didn't know before and were prone to fits of anger. They weren't even landlords. It was the wrong part of town to live in anyway, but even if it wasn't, I'd move out.

And where I am, it's not hard to find good renters. Any decent place has an abundance of renters. Florida boonies though, I understand [Image: wink.gif]
