gold fund or gold

Hey, for those do investments,
is better to invest to mutual funds or Gold traded product or just buy gold? What is best place to buy and store gold or precious metal or do ETF, I heard of Monex , gold-money, SPDR gold? Is it good for long term investment? Gold price has risen steeply these years since the recession. what about other precious metals? Would not gold price get low once out of the recession?

Well, it is no longer cheap, but I believe it is a wonderful hedge against either inflation or deflation. The problem with most ETF's is that they are leveraged and don't have the physical gold to back the fund. Eric Sprott created a physical silver and gold ETF and has taken delivery to solve this problem. Just Google it. The problem is a problem of confiscation in the US. It happened in the 1930s. Also there could be a windfall profit tax if a future president does a reverse Nixon and backs the US dollar by gold at a much higher price in the future.

Your last thread you were complaining that you lived with your parents and they were getting on your nerves and jobless. So now you want to know about how to invest?

Do you chat about how to invest on your way to work with him? It's only a matter of days now where you're going to have to make hard investment decisions. I threw the Huffy Sante Fe out there because it's a reliable 10 speed.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to learn more about investing. If you are interested in learning about currencies and gold, I suggest you pick up Jim Rickards book Currency Wars and look up any words you don't understand. If you don't understand a word or concept, look it up in a dictionary. Once you have the dictionary definition, Google it too if you want additional info. And work hard too.

@ Durangotang- Now you're speaking my language. After MF Global, and PFG, Eric Sprott's organization is the only one that I would trust right now. If you can't hold it (meaning the metal) you don't own it.

What about fidelity and vanguard for MF?, they have some precious metal mining funds, although they now they are getting negative returns recently. Do MF Global, and PFG, Eric Sprott's organization sell and hold gold, I thought they are funds? Hey about bailment companies like bullionvault or goldmoney, they are directing holding?

I would only hold the gold ETF for a day trade. If you want have a longer time frame you are probably better off buying the physical & burying it.

I'm leery of just about all investments that aren't physical. APMEX and some other places will charge you a fee to maintain physical metals, and they have an excellent rep, and I believe Sprott is offering up this service as well. But some of the big organization are just moving paper around. If you look at some of the movement in the paper markets you can see that it's actually a fractional reserve system. Most of these people are seriously leveraged to the hilt. If there is a call for physical delivery they're in trouble. There was a story reported out of Europe where some big baller wanted to move his gold to another bank, and he had to wait for his bars to come back into storage. Apparently they were "temporarily loaned" out to another institution. And some of his serial numbers didn't match up. If this is happening with the Swiss this can certainly be happening in other places.

It might be so , it is meant to be traded like stocks, it has high capital gain tax like stocks and it is virtual, way more virtual gold is traded than actual gold, plus at anytime u only own a small amount of the actual gold. I read some investors are dumping real gold for gold stocks though, but that is different though. I wonder if ETF have better returns than long term bonds? But I read atleast some ETF allow redeem the actual gold. Other companies do allow u own the physical gold and store it for overseas. If someone has physical gold, he could also loan it for interests back.
