How's the poker scene these days anyway? Haven't been downtown in awhile. We used to play at the Horseshoe and Clarion, but no clue where the games are at now.

Best nightlife spot in the whole of San Jose (maybe the whole damn country) is a place called Hoxton.

I a chill lounge bar that you would never find without a recommendation. There is not even signage outside that I could see.

Its an old mansion converted into a chill lounge bar/music venue/restaurant.

Great vibe and music. Nice atmosphere to mingle and meet people as, because its actually a mansion it feels a little like a house party in someone's mansion.

Didnt try the food but it looked good.

2 dollar cover to get in for dudes but the chick that took me there actually paid it and bought me a drink (she had heard of my work with Sex 3.0 and was psyched to meet me and talk about it).

Awesome place and I am not just saying that because I went home with the girl at the end of the night.

Its in San Pedro and its 400 m west of mall San Pedro on the same side of the road.

From what the locals tell me, the poker scene is really down right now due to the poor economy. I am staying at the Sleep Inn, and the poker game close is at the Del Ray (no limit holden, $1 -$1). They advertise a game from noon till 3 am, although I went in on Thurs at 11 pm and there was no game on. There is usually just one table, sometimes two tables playing. Competition is average.

Sorry I haven't been able to meet up with anyone, being new to the site and all, but my date card has been booked everyday. The Ticas here are so friendly and gentle. If you are a decent looking gringo who doesn't look a perv or sex tourist, there is no way you can't score IMO. I have gotten a flag every night here with minimal effort, and only pipelined for less than a week.

What have you been using to pipeline?

I have taken a look at Costa Rica pipelining, but the talent pool online is orders of magnitudes smaller than a DR or Colombia, from what I have seen so far.

Ohionukes' expierence in San Jose seems very similiar to my own and generally my experiences seem to be much different than those of other forum members. I seem to do better than average in Miami and Los Angeles, yet far below average in all Mexican cities. In San Jose, I did no pipelining, didn't approach much, but did extremely well. Also, I did pull one regular girl out of the Del Rey. I think she was there because it was very late and it was the only place open. As G would say, I think the Del Rey is a low percentage play. The bartenders there may be worthwhile.

Hey I am new to the forum but am loving it. Wanted to ask about CR. Me and some of my buddies are going there in mid September and will be doing a couple of days fishing in Jaco. But do not have any other firm plans.

Of course we want to check out the local Ticas but do not know the area very well. I have read on here that Jaco is not so great. Is that still the case? Are there areas near by to check out the local talent? We will have a rental car.

Not interested in the pros. I understand the Beetle bar is packed with pros and they mob you going in. lol Not what I am looking for.

I speak ok spanish and one of my buddies is from Chile and is fluent in spanish. And I am working on improving mine.

How about cell phones. I have ATT smartphone. Can I just change out the sim card in it when I get to the airport? Or should I just by a cheap phone when I get there?

Dude tell us more. You have being with a different Tica every day? I have read this entire thread and all it seems anyone has said is how difficult it is to get with them. Give us some details. What is working what is not working? Etc.

I found some similarities between the looks of paisas and ticas, but ticas are in general definitely not as good looking as paisas

That said, i think its one of the best countries for women in central america

The country doesnt have that latin like others because its very americanized, obesety rate is not too high but fastfood is very present

Because there is a bit more European blood you find some pretty faced latinas here and there, but the arent always that easy aproachable

For example in one of the biggest venues called Club Vertigo the hotties were dificult to approach and there wasnt a lot of intermingling going on

Its better to try other places as mentioned above like university areas or get to know places via locals

You can meet easygoing girls in nightlife, day and online game and reach your goals with decent game

Not a Latin American pussy paradise like Brazil, Mexico or Colombia but still better than any Western country

Wouldnt like to live there but the country is worth a short to medium long visit to combine nature parks with a bit of flagtime

I just got back from San Jose CR, did a 10 day trip. I mostly did day trips that consisted of nature excursions, did a lot of touristy stuff. Stayed in Escazu (the beverly hills of CR, I was told) for 5 nights, then the last 5 nights in downtown SJ. I know absolutely zero spanish, and from what I could tell, you absolutely need it especially if you are an obvious gringo like myself (white as the day is long).

I was definitely not prepared for a gaming trip, but I did tinder the shit out of the place, and did some approaches on the street and while on tours. I am pretty new to game as well, so I was not expecting too much. Got 1 number from a tourist chick that amounted to nothing. The girls I approached in SJ didn't know english (or pretended not to). I am leaning towards them actually not knowing english, as I went to many restaurants/stores in downtown SJ and maybe 1 staff member knew any english. In Escazu, all the hotels/restaurants had fluent english speaking staff.

I had a few observations about the women in CR. Yes, there are many hot women. However, they seemed to be all clustered around the 18-25 range. There were busted up women all over the place, and I really get the impression that girls do not take care of themselves at all. I also noticed that there were many girls with a hot face, but they were concealing a gut/gunt. I don't think women like to workout here much, so their bodies turn into lard very quickly if they don't maintain themselves.

Like I said, knowing Spanish seems like a prerequisite for coming here and gaming. The city is also very spread out, and you will have to either have a car or be taking expensive, rip-off taxis all over the place if you want to hit the clubs/bars. I never ended up going to any, as the ones that were recommended here were all so spread out, I would have been spending at least a couple hundred dollars just to go to one place and likely get shutout as I don't know Spanish, am not much of a dancer, don't drink, and am over 35. I was also a little anxious walking around at night. I went to the Del Rey and there were all kinds of sketchy people eyeballing me and presumably trying to sell me drugs/assess me as a potential mugging victim.

I would have liked to have hit the small beachtowns like Tamarindo, as I have heard some positive things about them from English speaking guys. Overall it was an interesting visit for the wildlife/natural attractions, but I would not go there to try and meet girls unless I knew the language, and in that case I imagine you could get better quality and quantity in Columbia/Brazil/mexico.

i agree with that downtown san jose and sketchy people around make it hard there no real good "tourist" spot where you feel safe at night. Like panama's casco viejo, or medellin's el poblado, costa rica overall is a safe country travel level 1 but i felt at night there were tons of sketchy looking people no police presence and looked like you can get robbed easily there. No nightlife area too outside of a few clubs ( no main area where you can bar hop so logistics suck)

I would imagine day game/tinder would be really the best bet in this country from my experience to get women.

as far as nature volcanos etc it is a nice country. but for the money and more chances to game you are better off in Colombia/Panama/Mexico even Peru which Lima has a nightlife spot with bars and clubs and police presence.
