I need your help, fellow rooshers

Hey guys,
I know I've been a little weird and manic at times, but I have found out that I suffer from a serious mental health condition. I need your help to put together a 7 day ketogenic meal plan that I have to follow for life. At my current weight (roughly 201#, I've been dropping weight in scads as I no longer have sensations of hunger). I require roughly 3300 to 4000 calories per day.

Despite this bad news, I have a newfound vigor for life. I'm working to get a small business off the ground and I would be happy to accept you guys as potential clients on the cheap. I've finally decided that I want to work hard, make money, travel, and get laid.

Thanks very much,
Hades

We need to conduct experiments on you, so we can learn how to stop fattys from eating so much.

Anyway, from what I understand, a ketogenic diet requires a lot of fats/proteins and low carbs, so I'd recommend eating a lot of red and white meat, eggs, nuts, taking fish oil tablets, green vegetables, low/no carb protein powder mixes, only eating/drinking full fat milk and dairy products, and cooking everything in butter rather than vegetable oils. (This is basically an ideal diet in my opinion anyway)

Example:

Breakfast
Bacon
Scrambled eggs with cheese
Glass of milk
Fish oil tablet

Lunch - This is still possible, even if you're working or something
Greek yoghurt with mixed berries
Boiled eggs
Fish oil tablet

Dinner
Large steak
Eggs
Green vegetables
Fish oil tablet

Snacks
Assorted nuts
Protein shake with full fat milk, greek yogurt, whey powder, a banana and mixed berries.
Biltong (South African equivalent of jerky - it's way better)

Hope this helps with some ideas.

Yes. Indeed it was.

I have conducted extensive experiments on myself complete with video logs, voice recordings, handwritten notes, text documents, and hours and hours of online research. To be honest I was scared completely shitless of the stuff going on inside my head for days. I'm still coming to grips with it. Currently putting together a concise medical dossier.

Thanks for the support, Architekt.

I think it would be better to get a professional to make your meal plan if you plan to stay on a ketogenic diet for life.

The best place to find a dietician with the required skillz would be an epilepsy clinic, especially the paediatric ones. Because epilepsy medications can mess up your concentration at school, kids are sometimes put on a ketogenic diet. So the dieticians drafting those diets are the ones you want to speak to.

Long term, a ketogenic diet can suppress brain function (hence fewer siezures) and will acidify your blood, leading to calcium precipitation. So you get kidney stones, your bones will weaken and maybe become osteoporotic, and you will have less physical strength to endure strenous physical problems (like marathoning or being shot in the chest by a mugger) because acidic blood tends to retain oxygen rather than distribute it into your bodily tissues. You may be able to cancel the acidifying effect by drinking baking soda mixed with water - you should probably invest in urine dipsticks to monitor the acidity of your urine, which is proportional to your blood acidity. Since its the ketones that are probably suppressing the brain you probably don't need the acidity anyway.

I've never noticed any weird or manic behaviour from you, so I'm quiet surprised you're mentioning this all of a sudden.

Anyway, good luck!

Do you have any proof to your claims about the keto diet? This sounds like broscience. I'm going to say your not going to find any.

My grandfather was schizophrenic and grandmother had alzheimers. I would also focus on a pale diet mentioned above. Grains have no business in our bodies.

Good luck

Well Thomas the Rhymer, I kind of found this out accidentally after a fasting episode. Haven't really missed a meal previously. I've called a few doctors to get looked at but this has been a very recent thing and it is the weekend.

I quickly googled some science articles on the ketogenic diet and that's what I came up with.

Here's a simple article in layman's terms:
http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/keto_news_november07

It has a nice reference list at the end if you want harder science articles.

Most of the research seems to focus on children, so it doesn't necessarily extend to adults, perhaps adults are an exception.

As for the oxygen-acid relationship, I double-checked, I admit I was wrong about it. It actually shifts the oxygen-dissociation curve to the right, so you actually have more oxygen available to your tissues, although absorbing oxygen may be more difficult in acidotic lungs.

Hades have you heard of NLP? I'm a practitioner in this (awarded by John Grinder, co-creator of NLP). It really does have some amazing effects, maybe it should be something you can look into. Search up some forums, or maybe even look into being coached?

Hades,

Was the ketogenic diet actually recommended by your physicians? Drastically reducings carbs can have a deleterious effect on mood in some people.

have you heard anything about the primal/paleo diet? its more about a "natural" diet, than low carb. but he discusses low carb / medium carb in his posts too. the topics reach from the analysis of certain foods, to the influence of diet/wheat on autism..................
great resource, he has released a book and a primal cookbook

Paleo doesn't have to be low carb. Carb levels are dependent on the person own needs and makeup.

As much awesome people exist on this forum, from what you just posted, I think its better if you get professional help for what you need.

OK guys, I'll try to answer one at a time.

Thomas: Thanks for the advice. I am looking for a local epilepsy clinic.
Pompey: NLP would be interesting I admit but I think my mental change was very diet-related. I've always been troubled to some degree and it just went away almost overnight.

Dolmance: No, I have not seen a doc yet. I made phone calls and they basically told me I couldn't visit until next week.

Kbell: I agree entirely. My findings concluded that after 5 days of completely avoiding all carbohydrates when possible, I became intractible and unable to feel fatigue. I didn't sleep much and didn't care either.

FretDancer: This is a short term thing. I have purchased paleo foods like whole chickens, cheeses, and heavy cream. I was panicking in the first post because people don't usually lose many pounds of weight in a week.

To all: This discovery was a complete accident. I tried a two-day long fast and had odd waking dreams and intense thoughts and feelings. My feelings of hunger and thirst completely went away and I developed amazing mental and physical skills that seemed long dormant (I can now dance). It feels like my brain is finally working together. Kind of like "Limitless".
Naturally I was scared to shit, thought I was dying of a brain aneurysm, and skipped town for a day.

i conquered some long term health problems by eliminating grains and dairy products. professional doctors are primarily doctors and secondarly salesmen of big pharma. if its about nutrition and diet, inform yourself on the net. there a various good resources that try to seperate good from crap science as a base for their recommendations.
