Opening a Restaurant

Anyone ever consider this? I love cooking. Opening a restaurant in Eastern Europe would be a dream fulfilled. The only trouble is getting the startup funds. How do people get the funds to start a restaurant? This is why you have so many chefs who finish top schools and end up making near minimum wage...while only dreaming of opening a place.

Is there a way or plan to actually succeed and open a restaurant?

I think there's a difference between loving to cook and loving to manage a restaurant. I was having this discussion with someone the other day, who was complaining about the air traffic control industry. Some brilliant and admired air traffic controller had been promoted to management, where he suddenly became totally incompetent, because as much as he knew about air traffic, he knew nothing about management. I imagine that is why so many top chefs earn minimum wage - because they have no idea how to draw up a business plan to present to a potential investor.

On a serious note, why don't you just call some restaurant owners/managers, tell them you want to schedule a meeting to discuss the restaurant business, and then meet them? Even if 99 guys say no, if you can even speak to one real restaurant manager you'll have a better idea of what you're in for. Ask those guys how they got funding.
