Lack Of Motivation To Get Work Done. Any Resources To Help?

I think that's a good idea Rio, there's too many distractions in my house and it doesn't feel like I should be working here. Haven't done any work myself today either so I might go to the hotel bar near me and use their WiFi to get some work done.

Without giving too much away what are you working on at the moment Rio?

Rionomad, I am in exactly the same boat as you. I work for myself but spend most of my time gaming, sex, jerking off, cafes etc.

I have very little discipline, low motivation, and it takes a Herculean effort to get anything serious done.

P.S. If you are looking for a remote job and have some sales experience I might be able to throw some work your way. I know how it feels to be overseas in a pussy paradise with financial problems

Gaming is a disease, it can destroy your life.

I'm starting work for a new client at 9am tomorrow and have prep to do, but instead I'm on here, Mamba, Badoo and Vkontakte.

being overwhelmed by distraction is usually a symptom of anxiety and stress.

the key to dealing with anxiety and stress: nutrition and exercise
the solutions:

1. hydrate - drink more water
2. eat better: no/little carbs, fruit, vegetables, lean meat
3. supplements: omega 3 fatty acids, vitmains, minerals
4. moderate exercise at least 3-4 days a week: runnig, jogging, cycling, weights

Rio, if you are still in BKK. Check out "Third Place" in Thong Lor. It's a co-working space/coffee shop - just found out about it and am signing up for membership this week. Looks like it has potential to be a good work environment and also a good place for networking with other people with online ventures/ just general interesting ppl working remotely.

Yes office sharing is a great idea, I look for this when overseas. Get's you away from distractions in the home, and into a professional, entrepreneurial environment.

That's an interesting concept. Wine bar, italian bistro, massage and work space rolled into one.

Thanks bro, I appreciate the offer. I am actually headed back stateside in a month where I can live for free (empty house, not with my mom lol) and really focus on getting my shit done. If I end up dead broke in a 3rd world country I will for sure hit you up though hah.

I haven't checked out the Third Place yet, but read about it. It's on Thong Lor 10, which is a bit of a trek from the BTS I think. I guess they are opening a new co-working space right off of the Ekkamai BTS called Hubba. However, I hear it is 4,000 baht a month. For that price I could rent a studio apartment and turn it into my office.

I think I will definitely use this place when I overwinter in Thailand this year. I would definitely pay that kind of money as there is likely to be a leap in my productivity.

No worries, I pay decent money to expats with solid experience, minimum $1200 a month for full time.

Always happy to work with agents also.

Spent plenty of time online today but got absolutely nothing done! I've written a to do list for tomorrow that I'm going to force myself to get done.

Here's something that gets me into a work mode:

1. put headphones on and set a music play list. I have a list of beatport dance singles.

2. have a to do list, with each task broken into actionable pieces

3. get started on the material for a set period.

With headphones on, and especially some caffeine coursing through me, this works, particularly with creative projects.

I'm also going to start doing the pomodoro technique.

Lots of good ideas in this thread, I use many of these myself.

One question for the forum: which techniques do you use to keep work habits while traveling?

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

Got jack shit done today, but the previous 3 days I was pretty productive. Getting out of my apartment and down to the coffee shop is the way to go, for sure. Makes a HUGE difference. Today, I stayed at my apartment, and did nothing. Tomorrow, will go to the coffee shop for sure.

Nice.

Although the opposite is often true in Lvov. A trip to a certain coffee shop in Lvov is guaranteed disaster. This place is full of the foxiest bitches in town, a very luxurious place. It's hard to concentrate on anything for more than 5 minutes.

Many people use it for business meetings, the girls' ears prick up when you are talking business "ah zee foreign biznisman".

Last year at this time I was seriously considering getting my then housemate to lock me in the apartment before he went to work. Otherwise I make some bullshit excuse to go out, then I see legs, and I don't return home till 6am

Nice one. [Image: biggrin.gif]

I didn't really do much in the way of work today. My to do list went to shit when I realised I hadn't done some other things that needed to be done before I could work on my to do list. However I did come up with some potentially good new ideas that could make me some money. Every day a new idea (or 5) comes into my head which can further distract me. My heads all over the place.

Rio how is your motivation right now?

I am finding hard to stop procrastinating. Funny enough, i was way more productive when i had a job (and im too much of a business person). When i had a job i was working full time and doing my university course online full time and i could do both without a problem. Now that i am just travelling, i cant do anything.

I need to start invest on my independent business projects or i will have to go to Canada and get a job. However i dont want to go back to the job route. DR is so affordable that i dont want to go get a job right now but if im looking to have more money on monthly basis 5 years from now, i need to get a job or start working hard on my independent projects.

Let me know how is your motivation going so far.

Better than it was, but still not great. I am back in my home town and bartending on the weekends and chasing the low quality wildebeests in this town. I have my e-commerce store developed, now I have to uploaded 150ish products to it. I am going to go search for some quality VA on oDesk to do that right now, actually.

Test your hormone levels in your blood. Go to some lab to get it done. You may lack testosterone and others.

Read Getting Things Done (GTD), by David Allen: it is common-sense but really works once you understand and put into practice (really important) its basic principles.

I believe the activities in your life can be broken down into two basic categories:

1. GOAL ACHIEVING
2. STRESS RELIEVING

It is up to you to decide what your goals are, more girls, more money, better results at the gym etc....If you are not doing something to achieve your goals than you are stress relieving. You need some stress relief - sex, day at the beach, surfing RVF.

Here is a simple exercise I do to make sure I am being productive. I say to myself:

"Hey Kenny Powers. What is the absolute best thing you could do right now at this moment to improve your life"?

Sometimes it is as simple as drink 32 oz of water or do 50 pushups. Sometimes I pick up the phone and start calling clients. Other times I shower, get dressed and go out solo on a random Wednesday night to a new spot. Sometimes I take a walk by the river and reflect on life.

No matter what you do think to yourself "is this activity goal achieving or stress relieving"

My experience has shown that there is a direct correlation to me achieving my goals and my stress disappearing.

One of my favorite sayings I've read on the forum that has struck me was something along the lines of: "If you started a year ago, how far along your mission would you be?"

Recently I have noticed my motivation has been slacking. In a couple of weeks I will start school. I have also stopped going to the gym in the past couple of months.

This thread was exactly what I needed to turn on the switch.
