Forum Memes and Glossary

Updated 12/05/13

I've been thinking about doing a thread like this for some time, but recent interest has encouraged me to finish it.

This place has been around long enough to have its own set of terms, traditions, and memes. I'm hoping this thread will be a central repository for these things as they emerge. Needless to say, this isn't a comprehensive list--and my definitions/descriptions aren't authoritative--so please suggest and revise away. This also in a draft stage, so you may see me come in and do periodic edits myself.

10 Thread
An epic thread started by member JayMillz, but since wisely stewarded by member Athlone McGinnis asking "What do You Guys Consider a 10?" In it, members upload (usually high-definition) images of some of the most attractive women known to them. The terms "10 Thread" or, interchangeably "Athlone's girls," are often deployed to describe an absolutely top-shelf women. A less successful, but decidedly funnier, copycat, "What Do You Guys Consider a 5?" thread was started several months later.

2/1/12
A day that will live in infamy. In a massive security breach, a determined troll--using an Indian Race Troll facade--bombarded the forum during the very early hours of February 1st. Exploiting a new forum practice, instituted to reduce trolling in the first place, where registration was only open on first of the month, the troll--who went by the name Some Indian Guy--managed to upload monumentally offensive hardcore gay porn, in the form of animated gifs, to over 80 threads before being stopped. A memorial thread was held in the aftermath of 2/1, and the forum mourned the casualties this one determined terrorist was able to inflict on this peaceful community. The forum was never the same since 2/1, though the events led to the naming of an additional moderator and the institution of more stringent security measures.

Alpha-Beta Debate
An endless, circular debate about what constitutes "alpha male" and, by extension "beta male," behavior. The subject of countless threads and tangents, it is a quagmire discussion that periodically seduces newbie and veteran alike. It remains, and will continue to remain, unsettled.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
A life-hacking, miracle product, peerless--with the possible exception of Baking Soda--in its simplicity, effectiveness, and versatility. Known to remedy everything from acne to acid reflux, it is also rumored to have sexual-health and energy-increasing benefits.

Baking Soda (on Your Balls)
This meme stemmed from a thread started by member Riker about the wonders of baking soda, especially as a replacement for deodorant. After some initial skepticism, members--particularly Roosh--confirmed and trumpeted the effectiveness of the inexpensive product for not just armpit perspiration, but a panoply of other hygienic uses. Among the suggestions was it was effective at keeping your testicles dry and unsticky throughout the day. Another member suggested, probably in jest, that corn starch could serve the same purpose. In time, "putting baking soda on your balls" (or, alternatively, dipping or dusting your balls in/with baking soda) became equated with confidently getting ready to go out and work a sharp, well-honed game, completely grounded in the sometimes odd--but unquestionably effective--life-hacking strategies the community has developed collectively.

BBL Meltdown
This was an infamous tirade leveled by (now-banned) member BigBootyLuvr against Roosh and Gmanifesto, and the rest of the board, in an escalation of slowly accumulating Internet rage. With his penchant for excoriating other members, and lashing out suddenly, his name (and meltdown) have since become synonymous with accumulating, ad hominem roid rage. While there have been several lesser meltdowns, none have come close to reaching the vigor (and hilarity) of the BBL. In a laughable denouement, a member bearing the exact same name (and unique spelling) has emerged at NaughtyNomad's inchoate forum.

Bust out a data sheet!
A request for specific information, in the form of an organized write-up, on a particular country, city, or region--on anything from where to swoop girls there to affordable accommodations. The statement can be framed as a friendly plea to share new, valuable information with the community, as well as a call-out statement to a member habitually (and selfishly) asking for information without sharing any of his own. The term's appeal lies, in part, to its deliciously early-90s overtones and indigenous (RVF) origins. Its invention is credited to member Gmanifesto.

Custom-Suited Down
A term coined by member Gmanifesto to refer to being dressed in high-end, custom suiting as well as other elegant accountrements. The term also implies lavish living and expensive, impeccable taste.

Dash Global
A long-standing member--who to this day, has one of the highest post counts--that was long suspected of fabricating data sheets on various international locations and venues. After a series of protracted allegations, he was confirmed as an impostor and banned post-haste. A thread detailing his activities, and declaring the occasion a "player's holiday," ensued.

Forum Member Reputations
The RVF has also developed a series of stereotypes based on a long-standing members' behavior and proclivities. Some of these include:

Athlone McGinnis: Young, cerebral Successful-Black-Man-in-the-making

Mechanico: Greek immigrant with a willingness and ability to exploit the "low-end market"; Reportedly looks like Saddam Hussein, and known for a series of (possibly apocryphal) tales of exceptional street-fighting prowess.

He is also credited with single-handedly improving the player reputations of mechanics everywhere.

GManifesto: Lavish, expensive, mysterious (even criminal) lifestyle. Also prone to boxing metaphors to explain anything from the difficulty of getting women at a particular venue to his disputes with other members.

Houston: Member of possible Mexican-American extraction living in the American Southwest. Known for his unapologetic Latino bravado and fondness for sending out unsolicited dick pics to women.

Tenderman: Penchant for older women.

Game Denialism
A reactionary ideology that questions well-proven, fundamental principles of game or denies that game has any more validity than any of the other factors in the human courting process. This takes on many forms, but most often it appears as arguing for the primacy of race or "looks over game." Game denialism is, in most cases, a dead-giveaway to trolling.

Hamster
This is a complex conceptual abstraction that grew from the manosphere's "Rationalization Hamster" phrase used to describe women's tendency to use uniquely absurd logic to rationalize their often promiscuous, idiotic, rude, or blithely and willfully ignorant behavior. This includes everything from sex on vacation "not counting" to believing that her 12 "guy friends" are just interested in being her friend and aren't actively plotting on how to get out of the friendzone. The imagery of a hamster wheel is employed to represent the repetitive mental "grinding" and acrobatics that a person in the active state of rationalizing must perform to continue to adhere to their otherwise illogical worldview or behavior.

The phrase's use has since been expanded to include all sorts of rationalizing behavior, usually by women, but even men. It's been used as a modifier (e.g., Obama Hamster), and is modified itself (e.g., Hamsterization). Its popularity has led to the addition of a dedicated "smiley": an animated gif for the purposes of denoting the presence of "hamster logic."

With increased recognition of the existence of a male-version hamster, a new smiley has been added to the forum arsenal.

I thought this thread was going to be about
A meme trademarked by user Mechanico where a members states, usually in a brief sentence, what he thought a thread was "going to be about." Usually written with tongue-firmly-in-cheek, it is a strategy for critiquing a poorly titled thread or mildly trolling a half-baked subject.

Indian Race Troll(s) a.k.a. IRT
An infamous (and frequently re-occurring) type of forum troll who claims to be of Indian extraction, or implies it, and is clinically obsessed with racial issues--especially as they pertain to a South Asian man being able to get "white girls." Although there have been many copycats, there was one original Indian Race Troll (IRT) whose original threads were among the funniest and most popular on the forum. In the early stages, a scene of a Tamil man on a cell phone became the subject of a forum meme (Origin: Tuthmosis).

IRT has since become the subject of countless forum memes, including impressionistic scenes of his secret life. Later revelations suggested that IRTs aren't the only type of Indian trolls and that, in fact, Indian people--in a general sense--may be prone to trolling, both on the Internet and in real life. One of the tragic, unintended consequences of Original IRT's mischief is that he's biased thousands of people around the Internet against Indian people, who people now automatically suspect of trolling.

After being banned from the forum, Original IRT moved onto a new project: hurling abuse from the safety of his own "game blog"--a laughable project in itself, since it claimed to give dating advice, despite the fact that the author was relatively inexperienced with, and unknowledgeable about, women. In his posts, and in array of men's forums around the web, he relentlessly attacked Roosh, Tuthmosis, and other RVF members. In final twist to the IRT Saga, his identity was revealed, setting off a storm of activity on the RVF. Eventually--uncomfortable with his exposure and beset on all sides by his opponents--IRT conceded defeat and called for a truce, asking that threads on this forum revealing his likeness be removed in exchange for removal of his hate posts around the Internet.

While Original IRT has thankfully faded into mists of historical memory, the figure of the Indian Race Troll--which he unwittingly helped this forum uncover and study--endures.

Kate Upton
A world-famous teenage super model who became the subject of several threads around the same time. In one, members took exception to her reputed "flawless" looks, pointing out the notable sag in her breasts and her potentially deficient ass. Others ridiculed the critics for cynical fault-finding in a woman they would readily and gratefully bed. In another thread, member MidniteSpecial suspiciously claimed that he was going "go work" with her. He was banned for the vainglorious Fiction Trolling, only to be restored when he provided plausible photographic evidence of having met--or at least stood in close proximity to--the leggy blonde.

Killing It
Doing extraordinarily well with women.

Lizard(s)
Term coined by user Moma used to refer to women--from attractive to plain. Derided at first, it has caught on throughout the forum.

Other Troll Types
A series of other troll types unique, or at least abundant, to the RVF community. Others include Big-Baller Troll and STD Troll. A well-known forum thread lists most of the common types.

Poosy Paradise
Your personal Land of Milk and Honey, the place on the globe where forces unique to you converge to make you incomparably successful with women, with little effort. In your Poosy Paradise, not only do you find an abundance of thin, young, available, and attractive girls--of your type --but you just happen to kill it there. Coined by Roosh, it was popularized by a Danish talk-show clip--where panelists discussing his controversial book, Don't Bang Denmark, comically repeated the English-language term in a cloud of indiscernible babble. It has been adopted, with this unique spelling, to mean any fantastical, though tragically ephemeral, promised land where all of the undesirable elements of getting girls (cockblockers, fatties, sausage fests) are virtually absent (or irrelevant) and your success rates are through the roof.

Raw-Dogging/Fearless Raw-Doggers
While "raw dogging" is a well-circulated slang phrase for unprotected sex, raw-dogging has a special place in the RVF, since many members regard it as a badge of courage, the only true form of sex, and--in some extreme cases--the only form of sex that counts. In recent weeks, the title, and image macro, "Fearless Raw Dogger" (Credit: Tuthmosis) has been circulating to recognize members for their bravery in the face of measurable risks of contracting sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancy. Roosh, the forum's namesake, is infamous for pursuing raw-dog sex at virtually all costs.

Rep Points
A once-defunct, and later restored, forum reputation system where members award +1 points to another member for his overall contributions to, and oeuvre on, the forum. Despite its function as an easy reference for a member's relative worth to the community, it began to degenerate into posturing and angling between members and was discontinued by the forum administrator. It became a sensitive issue in the wake of its suspension, creating several major rifts and controversies. Legendary member, Mixx--who had the highest count at the program's discontinuation--left the forum over the removal of the program, vowing to not return until it was reinstated. Despite its restoration, he never returned. Several members staged (unsuccessful) campaigns to reinstitute the politically charged program, and a variety of alternatives were attempted in the interim--including an unpopular system, grounded in Danish Jante Law, which awarded members graphic tokens of appreciation with romantic overtones.

Sean Connery Slapping Video
A brief video clip of an interview Sean Connery gave to Barbra Walters in the late 80s--during the latter part of theatrical ascendency--where he discusses his willingness to slap, and his technique for slapping, instansigent women. His resolute, calm temperament is impressive and, as such, the video is regularly embedded in threads as an example of "alpha behavior." If there is a thread on the Alpha-Beta Debate, rest assured that it will only be a matter of time before the Sean Connery Slapping Video makes an appearance.

SNL
Acronym for Same-Night Lay. It is roughly equivalent to a one-night stand (ONS), but accounts for other scenarios that don't neatly fit into the the one-night stand framework (e.g., sex on first date with a prospect met on an online dating site).

Swooping
A term attributed to Gmanifesto, but possibly originating elsewhere, that denotes approaching, charming, and seducing women.

Trademark™
A superscripted mark placed at the end of a phrase to subtly lay claim to an idea or term as your own throughout the forum. Often used ironically. (Alt+0153 for Windows users)

Was this Beta?
This is forum meme that originated from a silly newbie thread, where an ironically named user asked the community whether his behavior on a given night--despite having reportedly scored the bang--had been "beta." He was ridiculed mercilessly by others in the thread, which quickly degenerated into members constructing elaborately masculine and grandiose scenarios--often taken from movies, history, or works of fiction--and asking, in feigned desperation, whether their behavior had been beta. The thread became an epic collection of creative flourishes from wide corners of the community. The phrase has since taken on multiple meanings: to excuse oneself from more passive, even sensitive behavior or to underscore particularly macho, impressive accomplishments--often in a parenthetical.

Also the Forum Stereotypes can be a way to request a certain viewpoint. For example, if there is a political thread where the conservative view has yet to be shared, someone may say, "Needs more Brian."

Great breakdown.
Forum Stereotypes could use Pusscrook there as well.
Would he fall under gigolo game? Female provider game?

That's why you see real life alphas without chicks. He's doing him.

I think things like DHV and 2/10 Would Not Bang shouldn't go on the list since they're imports from other Internet places. I think this list should be for uniquely RVF terms and memes, otherwise it would be insanely long.

Great. So if someone is living in a dumpster behind KFC he can just hop on here now and ask me how to turn that into poosy paradise?

Edit: I'm now craving KFC for some reason

The hamster concept has helped my game a lot. Whenever I see a girl making some silly rationalization, I don't get dismayed anymore, I imgaine that hamster revving up and it allows me to laugh at her.

I like the stereotypes. It helps when I'm in the field to channel the attitude of the stronger players, or to ask myself, what would xxx do in this situation. Especially if you roll solo. I feel like I'm never rolling solo with y'all on my side!

ACV

This does not stand for Actual Cash Value, nor does it fill in for Alpha Cabal Victory (No matter how fitting that may be for this forum...). Instead it is the acronym for the do it all home remedy called Apple Cider Vinegar. This stuff is rumored to solve all of your problems, from bad skin to making you insect repellent from head to toe.

Drink enough of this vile liquid, mix with honey and water to make more palatable, and it will probably make the most omega of men into an unstoppable Super Alpha.

Make sure you buy the real stuff; Bragg's ACV.

Heinz won't cut it.
