Premature aging! Blows!

Hi guys, any of you with as bad "genes" as me and look older than your age? I didn't care when I was 25 but now that I'm 35 and look over 40, I'm not digging it.
"Age" wise what are you guys recommendations? I'm not sure I'll do anything invasive but hey I'm a realist and know that an image does matter (and more so in a shallow country like Colombia). I should just let it roll, but part of me likes looking good so if anything this would be done for ego purposes.

Try and workout so at least you'll have a body to counter your 'old' look. Dye your grays, moisturise your skin.

That's the best you can do. As a man generally, we are fortunate that our stock value doesn't live and die with how old we look.

Instead, we are judged on the fortunes we have gained.

Fortunately, I am one of those lucky 24 year old that looks like I am 18. I used to hate it but since I started reading MikeCF's posts, I now do everything I can to prevent aging. I now avoid direct sunlight and wear sunscreen whenever I go out. Check out his posts. He has lots of anti-aging supplements and advice.

Are you fat? Fat ages a man 5-10 years.

some of this is common sense - work out and watch what you eat. the older you get, the faster you start to get out of shape if you slack on these things.

stay groomed, use moisturizer, get enough sleep, wear clothes that fit.

I'm in my 30s and have quite a bit of gray hair. I dye it but let the grays creep back in. maybe for some girls it's an immediate turn off, but a lot of them are into it. I've learned that 1) a lot of girls fucked professors when in college and 2) a lot of those that didn't, wanted to. you can use it to your advantage.

If a dude stays in shape, he shows age in his skin, particularly near his eyes.
I would figure out some heavy hitting skin treatment and use that a few times a week. I'm guessing some kind of aloe-type moisturizing lotion and maybe ice packs or something.

I looked at a picture of myself from a year ago and one today and found that the humble cold shower makes my face look better. Cold water prevents puffyness under the eyes and keeps skin from drying out too hard. It might be something you want to include in your routine.

All great advice! I think the gym is definately something I will do next month. I have made progress with my weight as I have dropped 10 lbs in the last year. Right now, I'm mostly looking at the wrinkles around the eye area and how to diminish them. Again, don't want this to become an obsession, but if I can help it why not change it. If there are any creams or anything you guys recommend for that issue I'll take a look.

Premature aging! Blows!

For years everyone told me I had a baby face and looked very young, I would get asked for ID everywhere I went. Then suddenly, in what seemed like overnight, I started getting told I looked older than I was, no one asked for ID anymore (in fact when I went to show it people would laugh and say "we don't need to see ID from you"), if I asked anyone to guess my age they guessed a fair bit older. Now I'm scared to ask. People guess up to 6-7 years older. It doesn't help I've got a naturally creased forehead, crows feet, tired looking eyes and thin hair (always have). I put it down to my sleeping problems. For about a decade now I've had issues with sleep and it has definitely aged me.

I would try this:

Do a skin peel. Then you must get the sleep thing handled. I think that just means extra exercise. If I am getting in good 30-45 minutes of cardio per day (hard) then I think that equates to an extra hour of sleep per night (minimum).

Also, don't smoke and put on a sunblock moisturizer on your face.

Here's the pic from the above story, identical twin sisters. One smoked and was in the sun more, the other didn't:

Don't worry be happy. It doesn't really matter anyway, and even if it did stress ages you [Image: smile.gif]

It seems that at 30 your body suddenly realizes it needs to start dying. Within a few years I went from being able to pass as a college student to looking middle aged. If you are in your 30s, a lot of it is reversible. Get to the gym and switch to a high protein diet so you can convert fat to muscle. A good dermatologist can smooth out whatever minor wrinkles you have at 30. If you are balding, get a hair transplant and buy yourself another 5-10 years of a youthful hairline. Dye out the gray.

I've never heard of anyone having a baby face and looking young to looking their age or older all of a sudden. I'm scared now...

Premature aging! Blows!

This topic has been beat to death on the forums, but I will recap the most important points, recently I've made it my goal to look 30 by 40, I always want to look a decade younger as I get older, although at 28 there is no way I will currently look 18.

First off avoid too much sun, wear sunscreen, wear a hat, etc.

Get good, deep sleep

Avoid stress

Moisturize your skin

Drink lot's of clean water

Eat a healthy, natural, balanced diet

Exercise

Stop smoking, or reduce smoking

Avoid drinking alcohol or taking drugs in excess, or frequently

Get your anti-oxidants....

There is not too much more to it then that, there is no magic bullet to looking younger, you got to invest in yourself and your health. This investment may take time, money, and energy. The average American lifestyle is unhealthy, a lot of people looking good in their mid-twenties are going to hit the wall hard when they get to their mid-thirties, I'm sitting back and watching it happen.

I've got a good friend who is in his early thirties, he's got what I'd consider good genetics, he looks easily 5 years younger than he is, the guy is pretty health concious and lives a low stress lifestyle. That said, he does NOT wear sunscreen, he boasts that he hasn't worn it in twenty years.

Well he works outdoors all day doing landscaping, construction, and similar jobs, it's been sunny here recently, and his face is completely sunburned. He says that it will fade and he'll be "bronzed", which I know it will, but within the past 3 weeks since the sun is been out, I can see the effect it's had on his skin. The red pigment of the burn aside, you can see how dried out his skin is, and the creases and lines in his face are that much more visible.

I've tried to worn the guy and tell him about sunscreen, and the negative affects of the sun, but at a certain point if the person doesn't agree with you, then they just perceive it that you are lecturing and talking down to them, which only makes them annoyed. Unfortunately, I can see my friend hitting the wall hard in the next 3-5 years. This is a holistic lifestyle, once you get into, you got to look at the bigger picture, you're in it for the long haul.

Maybe I should start to moisturize, exercise more and drink less.

Know dem feels.

I've been called baby faced before because of my features, although I have a solid jawline and chin, but I've also been told I look older than my age. Always wondered how that even makes sense? I'm in good shape from working out as well. Must be the skin because I was always picking at my acne as a teenager and spent a lot of time unprotected in the sun so that has taken its toll. Not to mention the alcoholic binges! Dreading needing botox in my 30's lol.

I'm convinced that sleep is more important than any other factor when it comes to looking young.

I know this is impractical for most people, but I try my best to be able to sleep till I wake up naturally every night if at all possible.

Genetics is obviously a big factor, but sleep is huge. So many people go through life operating at a sleep deficit. I've heard it compared to running a car on shitty petrol - you won't notice a big difference from one tank, but the effect is cumulative over time. How long you sleep for when you're on holiday, not setting alarms, is how long you should be sleeping for every day of the year. If its 9 hours then so be it, watch an hour less of TV every night - don't try to force your body to an 8 hour schedule.

I think there are 4 major aging related influences:
- working too much (not enough sleep/too much stress)
- not taking care of your body (exercising/eating right)
- partying too much (drink/drugs)
- spending loads of time in the sun.

You can get away with having one of them, but 2+ means you age horribly. The problem is the aging only becomes noticeable once people are in their mid 20s, and by then for a lot of people they've established their life habits and are reluctant to change them.

If you have trouble sleeping try:

-Drinking less coffee, and no coffee after 12:00. Coffee has a half-life of 6 hours.
-Magnesium capsule before bed. It relaxes you.

Try to forgo eating meat.
A while ago, I've read that one of the clauses in professional models' contracts is forgoing meat in their diets, as it is an aging factor.

You say bad genes, but...

Do you drink? If so, do you drink a lot?

And ditto what MikeCF said about being fat.

Point being, we know next to nothing about you except that you've already decided this is a genetic thing. Might be a good idea to examine that paradigm a little further before drawing any conclusions.

Most guys I know who have bad genes really just have a poor lifestyle. I've been that guy myself and it's amazing what some simple changes did. I thought I was just aging badly. Now people from back home message to say I look like I'm regressing in age.

And to be honest, there's still a lot I could be doing better.

frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." - Kipling

For older guys looking to bring back youthful skin, the best results I've seen come through getting a Croton oil/Phenol Peel from a Plastic Surgeon.

I've always been the opposite in that ever since junior high people told me I look older than I actually was. It bugged me a bit but now that I'm getting older people are starting to say, "you know, I have no idea how old you are", I'm hoping this continues for a long while.

Most of the important things have been covered by other members so I'll add that if you can, go to a skin care place once-twice a month. Get a facial, face massage, and feel free to use a face pack at home when you had a long day, stayed out in the sun too long, or just because.

Looking good isn't just going to the gym or buying new clothes. You only get one body so take care of the whole package.
