You should get a WP portfolio/resume theme. Look them up online.

It shouldn't be any different than a normal resume. If you research resume writing then the commonalities you'll find are start with the best experience and do not include any mediocre work. I'd also recommend learning some copywriting to sell yourself.

Go to craigslist and view at least 100 resumes. Save at least 10. Review them again, keep 6. Copy-paste the words/phrases, adopt to your experience, and you're done.

I have been using the same book to guide my IT resume for almost 10 years and it has always served me well. It is called "ACE the IT Resume". If you don't want to pay for it, do a google search for the book name in quotes followed by pdf and a downloadable version pops up as the very first hit.

The nice thing about the book is that it highlights several resume styles depending on your situation. If you have gaps in your work history, it has a resume format for that. If you have a lot of degrees/certs but no real experience they have a format for that. It also gives good tips on cover letters and the like.

One more tip. I recommend customizing your resume to every job offer you apply to. I have done this in good times and bad and it ALWAYS works out better than sending the same cookie cutter resume to 200 places. In fact, it has never taken more than 5-10 resumes submissions in that format before I get an interview from someone. Usually, if I have done two to three interviews I get AT LEAST one offer (sometimes all three).

Mr. M,

PM me and I'll send you mine. It's pretty solid.

I'm a project manager, so it should adapt to IT pretty readily.

What format do you guys send your resume out? I just found a website that wanted it in .html. I'm not a computer guru, so not sure why, or how the best way is to convert without boogering it up. Any thoughts?

Staffing agencies use talent (employee candidates) as a means to impress new clients. So the bigger the database of resumes they have, the more they can brag to win over clients. Another bullsh*t "vanity metric" used for impressions.

Be skeptical of agencies required resumes in HTML. Word format is understandable because they can make some edits to cater for specific clients and they usually tell you this, but if it's HTML then it's just going to their database so it can be searchable.

That's usually done by the business development team which can include a contracts specialist, marketer, analyst, PM, executives, etc.

A simplified explanation starts with finding requests for proposals through networking or websites such as http://www.rfpdb.com/).

The company applies for the proposal by writing a bid including their experience, staff, cost, and expected result. The requester selects most favorable bid, perhaps requests a demo, then both parties agree by signing a contract and work ensues.
