The halo effect states that physically attractive individuals are assumed to possess more socially desirable traits, live happier lives, and become more successful than unattractive people. Similarly, physically unattractive individuals are assumed to be less intelligent, friendly, happy, and successful than their attractive peers.
The Halo Effect - Science of Attraction
The interesting thing is, all of those "assumed socially desirable traits" are actually based in fact. Attractive people are more happy than average looking people (correlation is particularly strong for females), make more money than average looking people and are slightly more intelligent than average (it's not because beautiful people are smart per se, more because ugly people are stupid, well, that's what the study I read more or less said).

Great stuff Hencredible. The Halo Effect is real and its applications are broad, so I'm always looking for ways to use it to my advantage. People are shallow, unfortunately, and some need this to be used against them, jiu jitsu style. Another really cool study showed that people were way more likely to follow a man into a street against traffic if he had a well-tailored business suit on. And morons wonder why I always want to look tight- because it helps people to do what I want them to do.
And of course there are studies that show the "validity" of the first impressions thing, which was developed (evolutionary) for humans to quickly i.d. threats. Once its there its hard to reverse.

I found this was less about physical attraction, and more about demeanor and tone. Looks obviously matter, but how you present yourself and interact can either accentuate or detract from looks. Studies have been done with infants, by gauging reaction to pictures of attractive faces as opposed to less attractive ones. Even babies react more positively to good looks, and are infact able to differentiate between the two at that age.
I definitely agree that first impressions are difficult to reverse. We see it in any number of contexts. Once a label is applied, there's a reluctance to re-evaluate, even with evidence that supports a reversal of the original assessment.

"The best kind of pride is that which compels a man to do his best when no one is watching."
This all seems to validate the absolute necessity of a good vibe. It also explains why it is much harder to go out solo your first few times because it's much more difficult to be fun loving when you're alone at a bar @ night. I think the best part is that the vibe will always help you open doors, just a matter of getting that feeling to come off as genuine which it eventually will of you start having fun meeting people.
Funny thing is, looks vary. There are some places where one feels unattractive and other places where they cannot keep their hands off of you.
For instance some of my fat lizard friends (platonic) upon travelling to certain places are lorded over by the locals. This is to the point where the slimmer ones are actually ignored. Is this attraction based on physical proportions or on facial aesthetics?

In some of the West Indian countries and some of the African countries, bigger women are glorified. It is a sign of wealth. In Jamaica, I don't know if it is true but some of the women were actually stealing this farmer pill used to fatten poultry and using it on themselves since the men go after bigger women like they are going out of fashion.
When I was in Africa, I was confused as to why people kept trying to hook me up with fat lizards. But then I remembered where it was based from...

Of course, the big-jawed large girl in the positive group made a stink about him talking about his body. More proof that you have to game girls of different rating value differently.

This happens to me to, and even though it can be sort of an ego boost, it starts to get annoying, its like you have to put in much more work to get the bang.
