Spirit Airlines start service in Minneapolis

Actually just announced yesterday, but spirit airlines will start service in MSP (Minneapolis) on May 31.

Which is good thing, MSP is what you call a fortress hub for Northwest Airline now Delta out of 100 gates in the main terminal they used to have 95 of them so MSP had some of the highest airfare in the nation.

Spirit is fee happy I know, but do a carry on and you avoid 80% of the BS fees and pay the $25 to upgrade to the big seat aka (first class is a stretch) and you avoid the rest.

I have flown from Chicago to DR one way for $127 total on spirit with 1 stop in FLL their hub.

I know some of you were planning to hit MSP/Dakotas and winnepeg which is a few hours away so just an FYI for you dudes that like the snow bunnies.

I live in MSP and I've wondered about cheaper deals to Chicago (even though it's only an 8 hour drive) good looking on the 411 playa

Nope here is the link

MSP Deals

They have these all the time, you usually have to join the $9 club which about $59 a year. But just wait until you buy your first ticket then join they will ask you during checkout sometimes they give you an discount off the annual fee.

Be careful about Spirit's other fees. They charge for checked bags AND for carry on bags. I think it's $25 and $35 each respectively.

Anybody else use this airline recently? I've read many horrific views online but they have reasonable flights to Medellin from NYC

If all you're concerned about is price, then there is no problem. If you're concerned with comfort and ammenities then you've chosen the wrong airline. I don't like to travel with them.

Like Nomadicdude, Spirit's bag fees are horrible, especially even charging you for CARRY-ON bags. On top of that, their flights are not everyday. Now for those of you that stay multiple weeks (or months) at a destination, those fees and schedules may not be bad.

For us "weekend warriors" or short-stay travelers, Spirit Airlines may not be that economical...or safe. I know the Fort Lauderdale to Santiago, DR flight arrives at 2:00AM. Shhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.....I am not being at Santiago's airport and depending on taxis at 2AM.

I can deal without free waters and such...it was more the fact that they seemed to get canceled a lot for little reason. I'm probably just over thinking it

Yeah it looks like I'm going to take about a 5 week trip. Do you pay the bag fees for layovers too? For example from NYC you stop off in Ft. Lauderdale and then continue to Medellin

No, they have separate rates for international destinations and you would pay that before your first leg (about $10-$15 more).
