Holy fucking shit. She is 53? Can't say I'm a huge fan of her music, but she gets respect from me. That was the best halftime show that I can remember.

I remember when I was a young little pup and Madonna came out.
Here influence was mind boggling.
None of the pop stars today can even compare.
Every girl dressed like her. It was crazy.
The thing that I respect about her was she came up from basically nothing. Partied heavy at Studio 54.
She was dope without being famous. Not like these "manufactured" stars you have today.
She was legit.
I liked this track.
Especially the lyric:
"You've got style, that's what all the girls say
Satin sheets and luxuries so fine
All your suits are Custom Made in London
But I've got something that you'll really like"
She was singing that lyric to me for sure.
You could tell she loved International Playboys. But then again, who can blame her?
I'm not a Madonna fan and frankly many of her views I find annoying, but I have to respect the woman. She's a marketing genius. She has a laser-sharp instinct in being just controversial enough to be interesting, but not controversial enough to turn the world against her. She looked as lively and energetic on stage as she did when "Like a Virgin" came out when I was in 3rd grade. I'd have never thought at that age than when I'm 35 she'll be lighting up the Superbowl stage. Critics are already saying it was one of the best performances for a SP half-time show to date. Gotta totally respect anyone that can stay relevant for so long in a biz where artists have the shelf life of a loaf of bread.
I only wish Michael Jackson could've learned a thing or two from her.

Unlike Madonna, Michael started his career from a very early age (Jackson 5). That's probably a big reason why he ended up having so many problems later on. His whole family is weird.
That said, he's still the greatest entertainer of all time IMO.
I would even go as far as to say that he might be the most famous person in modern history. There's remote villages in the middle of Africa where you can find pictures of him from Thriller.
I remember eating at a restaurant at a village in the middle of Peru (a town with less than 100 people) and some kids were dancing to the video from his "History tour" that was playing on one of the TVs.
^^^ Agreed totally. Seriously, MJ at his peak was right up there with Jesus when it comes to global popularity. And that's not even an exaggeration.
When I say he could've learned something from her, I meant her ability to stay relevant and fresh and also be a healthy person mentally. MJ's slow implosion was a tragedy to watch. In a fucked up way it would've been better if he died at the peak of his career(like Cobain). He'd have been practically deified.

I know what you mean. It makes sense that he endured that kind of tragedy--so many rare historical figures do.
His popularity at its peak was a truly rarefied and otherworldly phenomenon.
This guy could show up in Korea or Japan and do a record-breaking sold out show and have everyone in attendance in tears behaving hysterically. I've never seen anything like that.
His global impact and reach was truly incomparable. No one in his era could even come close.
He won HUNDREDS of awards during his time. His death was a worldwide event.
His popularity has no comparison in modern history. That's no exaggeration.
Michael Jackson is getting his ass rammed if there's a hell. Fuck that piece of shit.

It is widely accepted that the most recognizable person on earth is:
But you really want to see something?
Watch the two head to head.
Muhammad Ali actually upstages Michael Jackson:

Wow I'm rarely angered by something a regular has said on the forum but you really crossed the line there.

This is funny because I am currently in a debate with some friends about whether Ali is more popular than MJ. Only one friend is saying Ali is. I don't buy it at all. I can't even see how that's possible. Ali is arguably the most famous athlete, but I couldn't say he's more popular than MJ, not by a longshot.
Do you have any outside sources you could link me to that say Ali is more popular? I can't find anything either way.
Great find btw.

I guess Houston is referring to the child rape charges. In that context his anger is probably understandable.

Hencred-
Great question.
I have heard many times that Muhammud Ali is the most recognizable person on earth, but I can't really recall where.
I did find this after a quick search:
Quote:Quote:
"According to the Toronto Star, in 1994 Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the Brazilian soccer super-star better known as "Pele" was "the most recognizable face in the world." Sports Illustrated insisted in the same year that this distinction belonged to former heavyweight champion Muhammed Ali."

I am not sure anything will be definitive.
Bottom line they were both pretty damn well known. The interesting thing is Michael Jackson was born in 1958.
And Ali won his Gold Medal in 1960.
So Ali has actually had a longer run, even he hit the world stage at a way later age.
Maybe Ali said it best like in that 2nd video above:
"The Jackson 5 and Muhammud Ali, we are just like oxygen: we are all over the world".
This song and video is beyond legendary. I've even seen videos on YouTube of prisoners in countries like the Philippines, and others, being forced to choreograph dances from this video.
Madonna is the queen of reinvention. She continually found ways to reinvent and stay relevant. She once said that she knows she isn't the greatest singer or the greatest dancer, but she knows how to put on a show. In her early days in NYC, she admitted to fucking any dude who could further her career. She made it pay off. She went through her slutty period (remember her "Sex" picture book?). Then when she had a kid she started critcizing other artists that put out filth! After her second kid, she authored children's books. After marrying Guy Ritchie and moving to the UK, she started taking up guitar and tried to better herself as a musician. I give her mad props.
Physically, I actually prefer early Madonna - her body was softer and curvier. I give her respect for totally remaking her body though - she put in hard work, but it made her look too lean and hard. Masculine even. The halftime performance was largely lip-syched, but it was a decent show.
