Kona, it's hard to tell when is best to go out. I would say that Jan. and Feb. typically have the best conditions, but you never know when a snowstorm is going to come it. It's a bit harder to learn if you are riding in powder. The ideal day would be a day when the there is fresh snow, maybe 2 or 3 days after it dumps and a lot of runs are groomed. I'm not sure about how hard skiing is, but I never took lessons snowboarding. I would say after 3 or 4 days you should start to get the hang of it to where it starts to get fun. I wouldn't waste your money on an instructor, I'm sure you can teach yourself.
