I think Roosh has talked about how you should start off practicing game on girls who you will never see again, not necessarily to avoid becoming "that guy", but rather to avoid the possibility of you thinking you might become "that guy". As soon as you are walking around thinking you are that guy, your self-confidence is shot and whatever game you do spit will be off.

Game definitely works on small college campuses, but anonymous cold approaching might not be the best strategy. Social circle game might be a better option.
